Chapter 746
Night had fully settled by the time the Chen family’s main residence finally grew a little quieter.
Garden lights glowed warmly along the stone pathways connecting each pavilion. From the distance came the faint sound of water from the koi ponds and the soft rustling of night wind passing through the bamboo trees surrounding the back courtyard.
Lydia stood on the small balcony of the left pavilion, gazing out over the enormous estate. From where she stood, she could still see guards moving in shifts along the outer corridors of the main residence.
This house was too large.
And somehow, its calm atmosphere only made Lydia feel more uneasy.
“Naomi’s room is too far from here,” she murmured softly without turning around.
Behind her, Cale, who had just finished speaking with Liu, quietly closed the bedroom door. “The right pavilion has always been separated for the main family members,” he replied calmly.
“It’s still too far.” Lydia finally turned toward him. The concern on her face was impossible to hide. “I’m not comfortable leaving her alone over there.”
Cale’slowly walked closer until he stood beside her. His gaze shifted toward the garden illuminated by dim golden lights below.
“Liu is guarding that area,” he said. “Daniel is there too.”
Lydia still looked uncertain.
“I even told him to stay outside Naomi’s door tonight.”
Lydia’s brows immediately furrowed. “Isn’t that a little excessive?”
“I don’t think so.”
Cale’s answer came quickly and firmly.
The atmosphere suddenly fell quiet.
Lydia studied her husband’s face for several seconds. His expression remained calm, but she knew he was completely serious.
“It’s all for Naomi’s safety,” Cale continued, his voice lower now. “I’m not giving anyone even the slightest opportunity to get close to her.”
Lydia exhaled softly.
She wanted to argue again, but after everything that had happened over the past few days, she knew the danger surrounding Naomi was real.
And that made it difficult to say anything more.
“I just…” Lydia lowered her gaze briefly before speaking again in a quieter voice. “I don’t want her to feel alone.”
Cale’s gaze softened faintly.
“She isn’t alone.”
For some reason, those simple words eased Lydia’s heart a little.
The night breeze moved gently around the balcony once again.
A few seconds later, Cale turned and looked at Lydia more carefully. “Are you comfortable in this room?”

Lydia blinked slightly at the sudden question.
Only then did she truly take in their pavilion properly. And the more she looked around, the more breathtaking it seemed.
The main room felt spacious, dominated by black wood and traditional ornaments characteristic of the old Chen family residence. Yet the entire interior had been modernized without losing its elegant warmth.
A small crystal chandelier cast soft reflections across the high ceiling, where faint dragon carvings stretched overhead. Thin cream-colored curtains swayed gently in the night breeze drifting through the open balcony doors.
One side of the room held a cozy sitting area facing their own private garden. Meanwhile, the large bed at the center of the room looked far too comfortable to ignore.
But the thing that had captured Lydia’s attention most since earlier was the bathing area deeper inside the room.
A warm soaking pool lined with glossy black stone filled nearly half of the bathing room. Thin steam still drifted slowly from the surface of the water, while the soft scent of sandalwood aromatherapy lingered gently in the air.
Lydia had actually gone still for several seconds the first time she saw it.
“This is even more beautiful than any luxury hotel,” she murmured honestly.
The corner of Cale’s lips lifted faintly.
“Naomi’s father loved this house very much,” he said quietly. “Most of the pavilions were renovated specifically to make family members comfortable enough to stay here for long periods.”
Lydia slowly stepped farther into the bathing area, her eyes lingering on the calm surface of the warm water.
“You know,” she said suddenly, glancing back at Cale, “I’m starting to understand why Naomi used to run around and play here all the time.”
Cale let out a quiet chuckle. “She once fell into the koi pond because she was running too fast.”
Lydia laughed immediately. “Seriously?”
“And afterward, she blamed me for it.”
“That does sound exactly like Naomi.”
The atmosphere between them gradually softened, becoming far lighter than it had been over the past few days. For the first time since arriving in Hong Kong, Lydia felt like they had finally paused, even if only briefly, from all the danger and pressure constantly surrounding their lives.
Lydia looked back at the warm soaking pool for a few seconds before an idea suddenly crossed her mind.
Her gaze slowly returned to Cale.
“What do you think about my idea?”
One of Cale’s brows lifted slightly. His attention was completely fixed on her now. “Usually, the ideas in your head tend to be a little dangerous.”
“Why are you immediately assuming the worst?” Lydia pouted in protest.
“Because I know you.”
Lydia clicked her tongue softly as she walked closer to him. Then, without hesitation, she gently touched his arm.
“Let’s soak together.”
Cale fell silent for a moment.
