Chapter 10

After we saw my sister and knew that she was ok, we headed to our dad’s house. I had a bunch of pictures to go through and a guard to talk to.

After Mom told me about the girl at the bakery, I have had her followed. I wanted to know if she was my Effie girl. I was really hoping that it was her because I missed her like crazy.

After sitting at the hospital all day, I was exhausted, so it would probably wait until tomorrow. As much as I wanted to find my girl, I needed some sleep to be able to function. It was the only way that I would be able to tell if it was her or not. As tired as I was right now, I wouldn’t be able to tell. I’ve not slept since we left

Russia yesterday.

We stopped on the way home and grabbed some takeout. When we got to the house, I excused myself and took my food to my room. I just wanted a nice hot shower, food, and sleep.

When I got to my room, I put my food on my desk and then headed to the bathroom. When I stepped into the bathroom, I got undressed and put my clothes in the hamper.

After a hot shower, I put a pair of jogging pants on and went out to eat. As I was eating, I looked through the pictures that the guard sent to me. I would look back through them tomorrow, but for now, I needed to at least see them. So I turned my laptop on and started to eat my burger and fries while I waited for it to

boot up.

When it was up, I pulled up my sss and started to look through the pictures. The girl in the first few of her in the bakery looked like my girl in the face. But the hair and eyes were all wrong. This girl had rainbowcolored hair and dark greenlooking eyes. My girl has blonde hair and heterochromia. One eye is blue and one is green and they are both a light color.

The girl in the pictures looks like she’s tiny, just like my girl is. This girl looks like she’s got some curves,

but it’s hard to tell much from the pictures of her in the bakery.

The farther that I got into the pictures, though, the more that I started to see better pictures of her. There

are even pictures of her with others as well.

In some of the pictures, she is walking with another girl pushing a stroller. And then there are pictures of

her having breakfast with an older woman and a young man. After that, the pictures show them at the zoo and her carrying a baby around.

I wondered if the baby didn’t belong to the other girl at first. But the girl who owns the bakery that goes by Rosa was the one who was pushing the stroller. And eventually carrying the little boy around.

My girl didn’t have a kid or shouldn’t have, anyway.

I sat and counted backward to the time that she left and then tried to figure out how old a baby of ours would be now. If she was pregnant when she left, then he would be around a year or so. What do they call

it for babies? It’s all in months, I think, so he would be like thirteen months old now, give or take some.

I couldn’t see his face clearly enough in the pictures to see who he looked like. I decided that I would have

to stop by the bakery myself. Maybe then I would get the chance to see if he was mine or not. And if she is mine or not. I would look at my schedule and figure out when I could stop by there. But I would do it later,

for now I need sleep.

After shutting everything down, I lay down. I tossed and turned for a while before I finally fell asleep. But

my dreams were plagued by a little boy with brown hair and green eyes. I woke up a few times throughout the night with sweat pouring off of me. And every time it was because I was yelling and chasing after my woman, pregnant and running away from me.

I finally gave up before my alarm went off and changed into a pair of shorts and went down to the gym.

After running on the treadmill, working with weights, doing pullups, and other exercises, I went back to my

room for a shower. Then it was off to work.

The next week or so went along this way. We had been busy trying to find a traitor in our midst but hadn’t

had any luck just yet.

Every time that I thought that I was going to get to go and see my girl, something else came up. I was

really starting to get pissed. I wanted to make sure that I had found my girl. And once I knew for sure, I planned to wrap her up and never let go of her again. That is if she will stop and listen to what I have to say and let me explain myself.
