Chapter 16-1
Effie
I was sitting in my office, getting work done. I was just finishing up with the money for the deposit when there was a knock on my door. I had a camera inside my office and one above my door, right outside of it. I also had a camera that faced my safe and one inside of it. I wanted to be safe when I opened the bakery,
and everyone that I talked to recommended a company to put my security system in.
The guy that came out to put it in was with the local MC. He is also one of the guys that was here a while back for the taste testing. His name is Zeus, and he made sure that I would be safe here. He also made
sure that there were plenty of cameras, including hidden ones that only he and I knew about. That way, if
someone tries to steal from me, then I will know who did it.
So when there was a knock on the door, I was able to pull the camera up on the computer or my phone to
see who it was. Since I already had the computer open, I looked on there to see who it was. When I pulled it up, I saw that Leandro was outside of my office door. I really didn’t want to deal with him today. But
figured that I better just get it over with.
I stood up and walked to the door and just barely opened it to look out of it. “Can I help you? You’re not supposed to be back here. The kitchen and my office are off limits to customers,” I told him. “Cut the shit Effie. I’m not just any customer, and you know it. Even though you want to pretend to be someone else, we both know who you are. You’re my Effie girl, the love of my life, the mother of my son, and my future wife. Now we need to talk, I want to see my son and you and I need to sit down and work through shit. Can I come in for a minute so that our business isn’t being overheard, please?” he asked me.
“Fine, but you’ll have to give me a minute. I’m in the middle of doing something,” I said as I stepped back to let him into the office. After he walked into my office, I shut the door and locked it back. As I walked over to my chair, I said, “Just give me a few minutes, please. I don’t want to mess up where I’m at or
forget.”
As I sat down, Leandro walked over to the pack–in–play that our son was in. Veer had laid down and fallen asleep while he was playing and watching cartoons. I finished getting the deposit down, put it into the money bag, and added it to the computer. When it was ready to go, I set it aside and finished up the papers that I was working on as well. I didn’t have much left to do on them.
It didn’t take me long to get it finished, and when I was done, I sat back and watched Leandro. He stood beside the pack–in–play, just looking down at our son. “He looks just like me, except he has your eyes. Or at least the eyes that you should have and not these fake contact ones that you’re covering up. What’s his
name?” he asked me.
“I named him Konstantin Veer Leandro Collins. We call him Veer, though. He’s my little nugget, and he does look just like you,” I said. “Were you ever going to tell me about him? I mean, if we didn’t find you by a very happy chance, that is. Would you have told me about my son?” he asked me in an angry voice.
“I would have eventually. I didn’t want you to know just yet. There is shit that you don’t know. Or at least I
