"Yvan, you're crossing a line," Winifred said, glaring at him. "Do you really think this is something 'just friends' do?"
"Why not? I'm just bringing you a meal, it's not a big deal." Yvan glanced at her. "I'd do anything for my friends. I once lent Todd five million dollars."
Winifred couldn't argue with his logic and could only glare at him in frustration.
Yvan picked up a crab ravioli. He was about to offer it to her but saw the anger rising in her eyes again. He quickly changed direction and popped it into his own mouth. "Let me see if it's any good first."
"Mmm, it's delicious. You should try it." Yvan handed her a fork.
Seeing how carefully he was treading, Winifred wondered if she was overreacting. After all, he hadn't done anything truly out of line.
At that thought, her expression softened slightly. She took the fork. "Thank you. I left last night's container over there. I had the aide wash it, so you can take it back with you."
"Okay."
A strange sense of joy bubbled up inside Yvan as he watched her eat with the fork he had just used.
Winifred felt uneasy under his unblinking gaze. "Aren't you leaving? Don't you have to work?"
"I'm not in a hurry," Yvan said. "I'll wait until you're finished and take the containers back together."
Winifred said. "I can't eat with you staring at me."
"Alright, I won't look." Yvan's lips curved into a smile.
He sat down on the sofa nearby and pulled out his phone.
As soon as he unlocked it, he saw a link from Todd.
"Yvan, what's this news about? It looks like Winifred's in some trouble."
The headline was sensational.
