How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 123

They sat across from each other and started to eat.

"What did Zebulon want this afternoon?" Yvan asked.

Winifred kept her eyes down. "He was just begging me to go easy on Cornelia. I refused."

"Good for you," Yvan said. "You have to stand up for yourself. We should pursue this to the fullest extent and demand compensation for the damages."

He knew she used to be timid. The fact that she could now refuse the hospital director's plea showed how much she had grown.

"If Zebulon gives you any trouble at work because of this, you tell me. I'll have your back," Yvan added.

Winifred pursed her lips. "Thank you, but that shouldn't be necessary. I'm planning to resign after the holidays."

"Resign?" Yvan didn't seem too surprised. "That's probably for the best."

He'd wanted to tell her to quit for a while. A hospital that treated its employees like that wasn't worth staying at.

"Where are you thinking of going after you quit?" he asked. "I have connections at other hospitals in Zion. If you have trouble finding a job, I can make some introductions."

"No, thank you." Winifred kept her gaze lowered. "I don't plan on working in Zion anymore."

Yvan froze, his head snapping up. "What did you say?"

Winifred looked at him calmly. "I said, I don't plan on working in Zion anymore. I'm thinking of moving to Riverside City."

Yvan's grip tightened on his spoon. "Why?"

"I'm just tired of Zion. I want a change of scenery," she said dismissively.

Yvan was silent for a moment, then asked abruptly, "Is it because of me?"

Her eyes flickered unconsciously. "It's not entirely because of you."
