How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 126

Otherwise, why would Winifred reject a son as outstanding as hers?

"No!" Yvan said forcefully. "I did nothing to wrong her."

Monica was worried. She could see that Yvan was genuinely in love with Winifred.

Feelings from seven years ago, now tangled up once more.

She had never seen her son so devoted to a woman.

She had to help him.

Monica decided to call Winifred herself and invite her to the party.

When Winifred answered and heard Monica's invitation, she politely declined. "I'm sorry, I'm busy that day. I don't think I'll be able to make it to your party."

Now that she knew about Monica's relationship with Yvan, she couldn't allow herself to get too close to them.

Besides, Yvan would definitely be there, and seeing him would just be awkward.

"You don't have time all day?" Monica persisted. "You could just come by for a little while. You don't have to stay for the whole thing. I would really love for you to be there."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Brown, I'm really not free."

Monica decided to be direct. "Winifred, did you and Yvan have a fight?"

"N-no, of course not," Winifred stammered.

"Don't try to fool me. I know you're more than just high school classmates," Monica said gently. "I know you were Yvan's first love and that you broke up seven years ago. He's trying to win you back now, isn't he?"

Winifred's grip on her phone tightened. "Mrs. Brown, I'm sorry. I never meant to hide it from you."

"I'm not blaming you. That's between you and Yvan," Monica assured her. "To be honest, Winifred, I'm very happy that Yvan has someone he likes, especially since I'm so fond of you. I know you started dating in college. Young love is the purest kind, untainted by material concerns, and you were each other's first. I truly hope you and Yvan can get back together."

Winifred hadn't expected this reaction. She had worried that Monica would be displeased, look down on her, or at least distance herself after learning the truth. She never imagined she would be so welcoming.

Mrs. Brown was such a kind person.

It was a shame that she and Yvan…

"Please don't say no again, you'll break my heart," Monica interrupted. "You have to come. Just for a little while, to chat with me. Please?"

Monica had put her in an impossible position. A seventy-year-old woman who had been nothing but kind to her was personally inviting her. To refuse again would be ungrateful.

She relented. "Alright, I'll be there."

Monica hung up, overjoyed, and immediately called her son. "Yvan, Winifred agreed to come to my party. I've created the opportunity for you; the rest is up to you."

Yvan's eyes flickered, but he feigned indifference. "So she's coming. What does that have to do with me?"

"Yvan, why are you so defeated?" Monica chided. "She rejects you once and you give up? Your father had to deal with me rejecting him at first too! A persistent suitor wins the fair lady. If you just keep trying, you'll win her over."

Yvan felt a bitter pang.

A persistent suitor wins the fair lady, but she had told him his persistence was causing her pain and anguish. What more could he do?

Monica continued to offer advice, urging him to seize the chance. Yvan listened distractedly, but deep down, a flicker of hope ignited.
