How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 183

Winifred kept her gaze low. “That’s not what I mean. Perhaps Rena does have the issues you mentioned.”

“Then why are you pushing me away?” Steven looked at her. “Winifred, you must know how I feel. I like you, and I want to be with you, seriously.”

Winifred replied, “Steven, I want to ask you, why do you like me?”

Steven was taken aback for a moment before answering, “You’re beautiful, gentle, and your personality is completely different from Rena’s. I feel comfortable around you. Most importantly, I feel like we’re the same kind of people, that we can understand each other.”

“No, we’re not the same kind of people,” Winifred said, shaking her head and pulling her hand away. “I can’t understand how you could be in a relationship with Rena for seven or eight years, only to suddenly say you don’t love her and that you’re incompatible. If you were truly incompatible, wouldn't you have realized it in the first year or two? Why drag it out for so long?”

To put it bluntly, he had just changed his mind. Or worse, his love for Rena had long since turned into exploitation.

Steven’s face turned pale as he forced a bitter smile. “So, you still don’t believe me.”

“I’m sorry, Steven,” Winifred said. “I’m a very cautious person. I’ve already been through one failed relationship, so I can’t tolerate any imperfections in the next. You said it took you seven or eight years to conclude you and Rena were incompatible. If I were with you, would you tell me we’re incompatible after six or seven years? I couldn’t bear that.”

“No, I wouldn’t,” Steven said quickly. “You’re different from Rena.”

“I am different from Rena, but I’m not perfect either,” Winifred said, looking at him. “How can I know you’ll be faithful to me? I’m sorry. I know it’s hard to ask for complete faithfulness in this day and age, but what woman doesn’t want that from her partner? So, Steven, I’m sorry, but let’s just remain colleagues.”

With that, Winifred picked up her bag, stood up, and walked out, leaving Steven sitting there in a daze.

Having rejected Steven, Winifred felt a wave of relief wash over her.

As she left the private room, she caught a glimpse of a familiar back in the distance. It looked like Yvan, and her heart skipped a beat.

But when she looked again, he was gone.

Then the door suddenly opened. He quickly turned and fled, hiding himself in the crowd.

When he saw Winifred walk out alone, without Steven following, he instantly relaxed.

It seemed their talk had ended in a breakup.

...

June eighteenth was Winifred's birthday.

For years now, Winifred hadn't celebrated it.
