Just after finishing her chat with Fitch, Winifred scrolled through Facebook and saw a new post from Molly:
Ahhh! How are Stacey’s tickets so impossible to get? Ugh, I was so close!
So she liked Stacey too. Winifred had assumed that someone as bubbly and outgoing as Molly wouldn’t be a fan of Stacy.
Being new to the department and naturally reserved, Winifred hadn’t gotten to know most of her colleagues well.
Molly, however, was an exception.
She had an incredibly vibrant and cheerful personality and loved to chat with Winifred whenever she had a spare moment.
Molly had warned her about the situation with Steven, helping her avoid a messy entanglement. As a result, the two had become good friends.
Seeing Molly’s post and remembering Fitch’s offer of two tickets, she sent Molly a message asking if she wanted to go.
Molly replied instantly, “Of course I want to go! Winifred, you’re the best! Love you!”
...
The concert was on July first at the Riverside Arena, starting at seven in the evening.
After work that day, Winifred and Molly met up, ready to head to the venue.
But just as they were leaving, Steven stopped her again.
“Winifred, do you have a minute? I need to talk to you about something.”
Winifred replied, “I’m sorry, Steven, but Molly and I are going to a concert. I don’t think I have time.”
Steven looked slightly disappointed. “It’s okay, it’ll only take ten minutes. Just a few words.”
Winifred pursed her lips. “Alright, what is it?”
Telling Winifred about Steven's past had been Fitch’s idea, and Molly had been rewarded with ten thousand dollars for it. Following Yvan's orders, Fitch also instructed Molly to get close to Winifred and become her best friend, reporting back immediately if anything happened.
Molly didn’t mind the arrangement. Her job as a patient guide didn't pay much, just a few thousand a month. Now, Fitch was paying her an extra five thousand a month just to befriend Winifred and report on her activities—it felt like a dream job.
Of course, she had asked Fitch why he was so interested in Winifred. Fitch had explained that his boss was trying to win her over, but the timing wasn’t right yet, and he was afraid someone else might get to her first.
Molly didn’t overthink it. She was happy to help someone find love, and she genuinely liked Winifred anyway. It was a win-win situation, so she accepted the job without any qualms.
Meanwhile, Winifred and Steven stood facing each other, about a meter apart.
“What did you want to say, Steven?” Winifred asked.
Steven looked at her and pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. “Winifred, I’ve put together some notes on what to expect for the senior consultant review, based on my own experience. You should take a look.”
Winifred eyed the paper in his hand but didn’t take it. “Thank you, Steven, but that’s not necessary. I remember everything you told me last time.”
