How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 211

Yvan held her tight, his mind fixed on a single goal: he couldn't let Winifred leave, not with Marcus.

"Winifred, please don't leave me," he pleaded. "Just... think of me as a stray dog, a lost cat. Take pity on me, please?"

"Everything you said about wanting me to be happy was a lie, wasn't it?" Winifred retorted angrily. "I should've known a leopard can't change its spots. The moment you showed up here in Riverside, all the way from Zion, I should've known everything you said was a lie."

"No, Winifred, that's not true. I tried to let you go, tried to accept that you're seeing other people now, but I just can't," Yvan said, wrapping his arms around her waist desperately. "I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend. Use me for revenge, treat me like a toy—I don't care. Do whatever you want to me, just don't leave me."

Winifred stared at the scene unfolding before her, which felt uncannily like a dream she'd had recently.

In the dream, Yvan had begged her just like this, and when she refused, he'd killed himself.

In reality, if she rejected him now, would he do the same?

Winifred shook her head. What was she thinking? Yvan wouldn't kill himself. Besides, there wasn't even a knife here for him to use.

A dream was just a dream.

"Are you insane, Yvan? Even if I wanted a toy, it wouldn't be you."

Winifred struggled free and turned to leave.

"For the baby... I had a memorial plaque made at a local chapel, praying for its happiness in heaven. And for your grandmother... I visited her grave on All Souls' Day. I knelt and apologized, hoping she could find it in her heart to forgive me."

He caressed her face. "I didn't do these things to earn your forgiveness, but to ease my own conscience. Winifred, you did nothing wrong. You shouldn't be carrying this burden. I'm the one who should be consumed by guilt. Please, I'm begging you, don't leave me."

So it was Yvan who had visited her grandmother's grave that day.

Tears streaming down her face, Winifred suddenly started pounding on his chest.

What was she supposed to do with him? Why did he always have to throw her heart into chaos? She thought she had finally moved on.
