How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 224

She had even been planning to go to Zion to see Winifred after she got things settled at home.

But at the time, she had been so distraught by her mother's death, so consumed by guilt and grief, that she hadn't questioned Fiona's story.

"But why would your grandma go looking for Fiona? What would they have fought about?" Queena stammered.

After her divorce from Joseph, the two families hadn't spoken for over a decade.

"I don't know. I'm right outside their house now. I'm going to go in and find out," Winifred said numbly, then hung up.

She dried her tears, composed herself, and turned on her phone's voice recorder before walking to Fiona's house and knocking on the door.

Someone came to open it. Winifred recognized her immediately—it was Fiona.

"Well, if it isn't... Winifred," Fiona said, flashing a fake smile and grabbing her hand. "Look how beautiful you've gotten. I almost didn't recognize you."

Darren and his wife emerged from the house. "Oh, Winifred's here. Come on in."

Winifred pulled her hand from Fiona's grasp and scanned the room. "Where's my father?"

Fiona was inwardly seething.

Winifred had walked in without so much as a greeting, asking only about her father.

She truly was an outsider. If Fiona didn't need something from her, she would have dropped the act long ago.

Darren smiled. "Winifred, your dad had something urgent come up. He couldn't make it today."

Winifred's expression faltered. "He didn't tell me he had something to do."

"Telling us is the same thing," Fiona said with a strained smile. "Your dad called me this morning and said something came up and he couldn't come. I figured you were already on the plane, and besides, your uncle and I wanted to see you, so we decided to wait until you got here to tell you."

Silence fell over the room.

Fiona clenched her jaw and finally admitted it. "Fine! We tricked you into coming here! But don't blame us, Winifred. Your father doesn't want to see you anyway."

Winifred's hand tightened into a fist. Then she gave a cold laugh and sat down on a nearby sofa. "Alright. Since I'm already here, let's talk."

Fiona, thinking Winifred's attitude was softening, immediately smiled. "That's more like it. Hannah, go make some coffee."

Hannah poured coffee for everyone. Fiona began, "Winifred, we're all family, so I won't beat around the bush. It's about that house in the county. Your father wants to give it to me for my retirement. Just let us know when you're free, and we can go transfer the deed."

Winifred said coldly, "We can talk about the house later. Before that, I have a question."

Fiona suppressed her annoyance. "What do you want to ask? Go ahead."

Winifred looked at them. "I want to know if my grandmother came here on the day she died."
