Fitch looked up and quickly hid the blueprint behind his back.
"Ms. Spencer, what are you doing here?"
Oh god, she didn't actually come all this way to see him, did she?
"This is my grandmother's house," Winifred said. "But what about you? What are you doing here? And with a hard hat on? Are you in charge of this project?"
"I, uh..." Fitch stammered.
Mr. Brown had explicitly told him not to reveal anything to Winifred ahead of time. It was supposed to be a surprise.
Why didn't those two guys give him a heads-up that she was coming here?
Winifred walked around him, snatched the blueprint from his hand, and glanced at it. She looked up, confused. "Yvan said you were on a business trip. Is your business trip managing the Birch Hollow project?"
Cold sweat beaded on Fitch's forehead. "Yes."
"Is the owner of Horizon Seekers Yvan?"
"...Yes."
Winifred already suspected the answer, but she asked anyway, "Why did Yvan buy Birch Hollow?"
"For you, of course, Ms. Spencer," Fitch said with a nervous chuckle. "Ms. Spencer, you see how good Mr. Brown is to you. He's handsome, rich, and so devoted. He bought all of Birch Hollow for you and didn't even want me to tell you."
Winifred stood there, stunned.
Fitch continued, "Mr. Brown and I stand worlds apart. I believe you can recognize the prudent path forward, Ms. Spencer."
Winifred had been feeling deeply moved, but as Fitch went on, something felt off.
Did Fitch really think she was in love with him?
She shoved the blueprint back into his hands. "Alright, I'm not an idiot. I wouldn't trade a diamond for a pebble."
With that, she turned and walked away.
Fitch stood there holding the blueprint, taking a moment to process what had just happened.
Did Ms. Spencer mean she didn't like him anymore? That she liked Mr. Brown?
Wonderful! Fitch raised his arm and wiped the sweat from his brow.
But to her surprise, Yvan flatly refused to let her stay. He wouldn't even let her step inside.
Yvan frowned. "Can you please stop crying? I've already called someone to take you to a hotel. She's on her way."
Any woman's tears, other than Winifred's, only annoyed him.
Teresa paused, wiping her tears. "Yvan, can you at least let me come in and sit down for a minute? I'm thirsty. I'd like a glass of water."
Yvan turned, went into his apartment, took a bottle of water from the fridge, and handed it to her. "Here."
He then started to close the door.
Teresa quickly blocked it. "Don't, Yvan! I'm scared to be alone."
Yvan's brow furrowed. Just as he was about to refuse again, Teresa shrieked.
"Ah! A cockroach!"
She was terrified of them. Forgetting everything else, she threw her arms around him. "There's a cockroach, Yvan!"
Just then, the elevator doors opened. Winifred stepped out, pulling her suitcase behind her, and saw Teresa clinging to Yvan.
