How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 29

Monica was a woman of action. The moment she hung up with Yetta, she dialed Todd's number.

The Brown, Young, and Wood families had been close for generations, so everyone knew each other well.

When Todd saw the call from Monica, he answered respectfully.

"Mrs. Brown, is there something I can help you with?" he asked politely.

"Todd, dear, I need to ask you something," Monica said. "Do you know the girl Yvan dated in college?"

Todd was taken aback. "Mrs. Brown, why are you asking about this now? Is Yvan still upset about it?"

Monica's heart sank. "What do you mean by that, Todd? Are you saying Yvan's behavior really is because of that girl? Please, tell me what happened."

"What's wrong with Yvan?" Todd asked, turning the question back on her.

He remembered the night Yvan had poured his heart out, revealing that his best friend was still hung up on that unremarkable girl from seven years ago.

He had spent the whole night drinking with Yvan, trying to talk some sense into him. He told him that a guy as exceptional as him could have any woman he wanted, so why was he still obsessed with Winifred?

He'd said there were countless women better than her, that she wasn't even in his league.

"Winifred? Is that the girl's name?" Monica asked impatiently. "Just tell me everything you know."

Todd explained, "Winifred was a high school classmate of Yvan's. She transferred to our school in senior year. She was a quiet girl, didn't really stand out. Her family didn't have much money, and she was pretty average-looking. We were all surprised when Yvan got with her. I think they started dating after graduation, but they broke up after Yvan moved abroad. He never said why, so we never asked. We all just assumed he was just having some fun with her, because, honestly, she was nowhere near his level in terms of family background or looks. But last night, he suddenly called me up for drinks, and he admitted that he's still not over her."

"If he's not over her, why didn't he try to win her back?" Monica asked, confused. "Even though you say she isn't a good match for him, if Yvan really likes her, we wouldn't necessarily stand in his way."

"It's too late for that," Todd sighed. "It's been seven years. You can't just show up out of the blue. She's already married, with a child."

"Oh, for heaven's sake, Yvan," Monica muttered, frustrated. "If he still liked her, why didn't he do something sooner?" If he had, she thought, that child might have been her grandchild.
