How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 69

Winifred glared at him furiously. “Yvan, get out!”

Her face was slightly flushed, her brows furrowed, but her anger had no intimidating effect. Yvan just found her adorable.

He suddenly reached out and pinched her puffed-out cheek, a smile playing on his lips. “Don’t be angry. How about you get me a drink? What do you have?”

He walked straight to her refrigerator and started looking inside as if he owned the place.

Winifred was momentarily stunned.

He used to do that all the time; he loved to pinch her cheeks.

Forcing herself out of the memory, Winifred strode over and slammed the refrigerator door shut. “I don’t want to give you anything to drink. Yvan, if you don’t leave right now, I’m calling the police.”

Yvan stuck his hands in his pockets, looking like a complete rogue. “Go ahead. I know people at the police station.”

“Yvan, you…” Winifred was so angry that her eyes suddenly welled up, and tears began to fall against her will.

Seeing the tears roll down her face, one by one like pearls, Yvan finally panicked.

She might have a gentle nature, but she rarely cried. The last time he had seen her cry was in bed, and he had kissed the tears from her face.

“Winifred… I’m sorry.” He reached out to wipe her tears but hesitated, afraid she would reject him. Seeing a box of tissues on the table, he pulled out a couple and offered them to her.

Winifred didn’t take them, just continued to cry silently.

Yvan’s heart completely melted. “Okay, I’ll go. I’m leaving right now.”

He opened the door, glanced back at Winifred, and then closed it behind him.

Winifred watched the door close and then sank weakly onto the sofa, staring into space.

She wanted to stay away from him, but he just kept getting closer.

Just then, a message came through on her phone. She opened it. It was from Karen.

Karen said she had a three-day holiday for New Year’s and would be coming back for a visit. She wanted Winifred to come home too, so the family could have a meal together.

“No, you’ve been doing a great job,” Sean said, his expression a bit awkward. “I have another assignment for you, and I’m worried you’ll be too busy. So it’s best if you don’t participate in that event for now.”

Winifred bit her lip. “What’s the assignment? Is it really that demanding?”

Sean smiled. “It’s the department’s operational manuals. They need to be rewritten. With your qualifications and expertise, you’re the perfect person for the job.”

“Mr. Lee, rewriting manuals and participating in the outreach program aren’t mutually exclusive. The program is only once a week. I have plenty of time during the week to write the manuals. Why do I have to withdraw?” Winifred asked, confused.

She had put so much work into this program—researching, creating the presentation, and even consulting with several teachers to make her lecture more engaging for children. She and Patrick had also rehearsed many times.

To be suddenly told to withdraw now felt deeply unfair.

Sean avoided her gaze. “Don’t ask so many questions. This was a decision from upper management.”

“Upper management?” Winifred suddenly understood. “Is this because of Cornelia?”

Seeing that she had figured it out, Sean didn’t hide it anymore. “Winifred, I’ve heard about what happened between you and Cornelia. I know it wasn’t your fault. And even though Cornelia clarified things, it still had a negative impact. The recorded session is going to be on TV, and if anything goes wrong, it won’t just affect you personally, but the hospital’s reputation as well. The leadership considered all factors before deciding to replace you.”
