How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 74

Just then, Monica and Hogan returned with the test results.

“Dr. Spencer, we have the X-rays. Could you take a look?”

Monica handed over the report with a wide smile.

The sight of Monica temporarily lifted Winifred’s gloomy mood. She had taken a liking to this cheerful older woman.

Winifred reviewed the report and then stood up. “Alright, please have a seat in the chair. We can place the implant now.”

“Wonderful, wonderful.” Monica got up and walked over to the dental chair.

“Careful,” Winifred said, helping her lie back.

For the next half hour, Monica had to keep her mouth open, unable to speak. As soon as the procedure was finished, she took out her phone. “Dr. Spencer, dear, could I possibly have your contact information? I’m getting on in years, and it’s not always convenient to come here if a problem comes up later.”

“Of course,” Winifred said, reciting a series of numbers. “You can call me if you have any problems or discomfort at all.”

“Perfect, thank you so much. I won’t disturb you any longer, Dr. Spencer,” Monica said, getting up with a cheerful smile.

“Alright, take care,” Winifred said, steadying her for a moment.

Monica was thoroughly pleased with Winifred’s performance. Her son’s judgment was impeccable. The woman he’d chosen was polite, patient, and incredibly considerate with the elderly.

“Well, dear, what do you think of the woman our son has his eye on? She’s wonderful, isn’t she?” Monica asked Hogan as they left the hospital.

Hogan nodded. “She’s alright.”

Monica knew that his “alright” was high praise.

She could see the smile he was trying to suppress.

Monica was delighted, but then she let out a sudden sigh. “It’s just a shame Yvan hasn’t won her back yet. She was his first love, they were together in college. Then they broke up, and just like that, seven years have passed. At this rate, when will we ever get to hold our grandchildren? Darling, don’t you think we should give him a little push…?”

Monica’s enthusiasm was doused with cold water. She muttered to herself, “Fine, fine. Don’t interfere. See if I care. You can chase her yourself.”

These past few days, Yvan hadn’t dared to approach Winifred directly, afraid of making her cry again. But he wasn’t willing to give up. So every day, he waited for her outside her apartment building when she got off work.

Winifred knew he was there, but she pretended not to see him, never once saying a word to him.

Yvan had thought she would soften, that she was just still angry about what he had said all those years ago. He believed that if he just humbled himself, she would eventually forgive him.

But days passed, and Winifred continued to ignore him.

Yvan finally reached his breaking point. He started to think that maybe she really didn't want to be with him.

Frustrated and dejected, he went to a bar alone and drank until he was more than half-drunk.

Fueled by liquid courage, Yvan dialed Winifred’s number.
