Yvan drank in silence, with Todd and Simon on either side of him.

'Yvan, what happened now? You look miserable,' Todd asked.

Yvan didn't answer.

Todd's eyes flickered. 'Don't tell me this is about Winifred again. Yvan, she's married. You need to let it go.'

'She's not married,' Yvan murmured. 'She's still single.'

Todd and Simon exchanged a look. Todd asked, 'What do you mean? Didn't you say she was married with a kid?'

Yvan tightened his grip on his glass. 'She lied to me.'

'She lied to you?' Todd was taken aback. 'Well, if she's single, isn't that a good thing? What are you so miserable about?'

Yvan's heart ached. 'What does it matter if she's single? She rejected me. She doesn't love me anymore.'

'No way, Winifred rejected you?' Todd found it hard to believe.

Simon added, 'Is she blind? You're amazing. You're more than good enough for her.'

'Don't you dare talk about her like that!'

Yvan suddenly exploded, glaring at them fiercely. 'Todd, Simon, I'm warning you. Don't you ever say she's not good enough for me again. If it happens a second time, you'll regret it!'

Todd and Simon looked embarrassed. 'We were just saying...'

'I don't care!' Yvan stared at them. 'Do you remember our sophomore year, when we went to the beach for summer break?'

Todd and Simon glanced at each other. 'Yeah, what about it?'

He grabbed the bottle to drink again.

Todd and Simon quickly snatched the bottle from him. 'Yvan, stop drinking. We'll go apologize to Winifred and explain everything. I'm sure she'll forgive you.'

'It's useless. She doesn't love me anymore,' Yvan said in anguish.

That night, Yvan drank himself into a stupor.

Todd and Simon took him home.

Yvan had recently moved into his own place.
