Howl of Destiny: Alpha Lira's Legend novel Chapter 4

Lira's POV:

"The Hidmoon Pack has been around a long time. But we've never had a true Alpha," she said, her gaze serious. "I built this place. Now I'm getting old. I want to find a good, strong successor.

"If you choose to stay, I want to train you. To be our first Alpha. To lead everyone, protect this place, and keep our mission alive—to heal and help.

"Will you accept?"

Become an Alpha? Lead a pack of strays?

I was stunned.

"But... we just met. How can you trust me with something so important?"

She smiled, calm and sure. "I know I can.

"My wolf has a gift. I can judge a person's heart. How else could I dare to bring so many unknown stray wolves here?

"They are all good at their core. Just like you. But none have a spirit as strong as yours.

"My time is running out. I can't protect this place forever. I've been searching for someone strong and right to take my place. To guard our home. To continue our work. And then... I found you.

"Of course, if you say yes, you start as the Alpha heir. To become our true Alpha, you must learn everything from me. All the healing arts. All it takes to lead. And you must master it."

She finished and let out a soft sigh. Her eyes watched me, full of hope.

I looked down, my mind racing.

Not long ago, I was a helpless Omega. Someone others walked all over.

Now, here was someone who saw something in me and was willing to hand me a pack.

Victoria's excited growl echoed in my mind. This is perfect! Their way aligns with ours. Becoming Alpha will make you strong, fast. It will give you the power you need for revenge!

My hands clenched into fists.

She was right. I needed strength. This was my chance.

Time passed quickly. Soon, three years had gone by in the Hidmoon Pack.

Those were the busiest, most fulfilling years of my life.

Every day, I learned from Enid—herbal medicine, healing, how to manage the pack. Then, I'd head to the training grounds to practice hard.

I was dressed lightly, sparring with Alexander—the strongest wolf warrior here besides Enid.

He moved like lightning. Every strike was sharp, aimed to kill.

Worse, his claws and fangs carried a natural poison. One scratch, and any werewolf—no matter their rank—would drop. They'd be forced into a deep, hibernation sleep.

Fighting him kept me on edge every second.

"Hah! Not bad!" He got more excited as we fought, his attacks coming faster, leaving me no room to breathe.

Before I could think, his razor-sharp claws were already swiping straight for my eyes!
