Seeing the warning in her eyes, Lyra felt an even deeper sense of calm. She even found the whole situation slightly ridiculous.

"I really have never met anyone quite like you."

Lyra's tone grew even colder.

"Acting so self-righteous while playing the mistress."

Aria's face instantly stiffened.

"You only get to take him because I threw him away. Aria, why do you think Maxwell was so against divorcing me? If he loves you so much, he should have been dying to drop me the second you came back."

The mockery on Lyra's face was painfully obvious.

"Is it because you're just too embarrassing to bring into polite society, or do you honestly think he has no idea what you were up to overseas?"

Someone had told her before that the Sterling family hadn't given Aria a dime of support while she was abroad.
