Chapter 117
This is Mr. Morgan’s arrangement. If you can’t accept it, you may submit your resignation to Manager Sophie. Chris said in a batte
“Manager Sophie?” Liam finally noticed her standing to the side, his face twisting in embarrassment and anger.
“The workday has already started. If you want to quit, hand in your resignation as soon as possible. If not, then get ready for the morrong meeting immediately.”
Sophie’s voice was cold and detached. Dressed in a perfectly fitted professional suit, she truly looked every bit the strong caress wORMED.
A flicker of something complicated passed through Liam’s eyes, but in the next moment he dropped his gaze in defeat. Withow anorher work, be turned back toward his office, unwilling but helpless.
Chris leaned in slightly. “Now Manager Sophie should understand why Mr. Morgan arranged things this way.*
“Please thank Mr. Morgan for me.”
It did feel satisfying to put Liam beneath her heel, but then a thought struck Sophie, and she asked, “Wasn’t Liam dismissed? Why is he allowed hackat work now?”
“About that…” Chris looked awkward. “It’s best if you ask Mr. Morgan directly when you have the chance.”
He gave a polite nod and excused himself, leaving Sophie with a faint frown. Something about this whole situation felt strange.
She pushed the thought aside and walked into the design department, where she found everyone already gathered in the conference room
As Sophie entered, every pair of eyes discreetly sized her up. Their gazes were hardly welcoming.
“If you’ve checked the company’s official announcement, you’ll know that from today on, Miss Sophie will be our new manager. Let’s give her a warm round of applause!”
It was Liam who spoke first, clapping enthusiastically as though he were the most gracious man alive.
The others quickly followed his lead, politely applauding.
“I’m sure most of you also know our past relationship,” Liam continued smoothly. “Although our engagement has been called off, I still hope you’ll all cooperate with Manager Sophie for my sake.”
To any outsider, he sounded like the picture of a considerate gentleman.
Sophie scoffed under her breath. “If you’re done, sit down.”
She walked to the head of the table, sat, and lifted her chin, scanning the room with cool authority.
“In this department, I expect everyone to keep work and private matters separate. There’s no need to treat me differently on anyone’s behalf, nor do f require it.”
With that single statement, she made her stance perfectly clear: the engagement was over, and she wanted nothing more to do with Liam,
The designers exchanged glances, but no one dared speak first.
“Don’t misunderstand,” Liam said with a faint smile. “I wasn’t asking them to go easy on you. I only hoped they’d help you ease into your work bere, After all, even though you graduated from a top design school, you’ve been out of the field for years.
“To jump straight into the position of department manager over a mere wager. it’s a huge leap. I was simply concerned i might be too meth for you On the surface, it was concern. In reality, he was deliberately reminding everyone why Sophie was sitting in that shair
Every designer in the room had fought their way in through fierce competition starting from the bottom as assistants before earning their curre

And here Sophie was–Catapulted to the top by a gamble. Naturally, resentment festered
Sophie understood exactly what Liam was doing, but she didn’t rise to the ball Instead, she quietly observed the reactions around her.
The silence lasted several minutes before a young woman in a red dress finally stood up at the end of the table.
Tipping quickly through the folder in front of her, Sophie recognized her: Nin, a fashion design major from Riverland Universty. She had only joined the company a month ago as an intern through Liam’s connections.
Since then, Nina had done little more than menial chores, never given the chance to touch a real design draft. No wonder she couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Manager Sophie,” Nina began bluntly, “every one of us here earned our place through real talent. Forgive me, but I can’t accept someone who became our manager through a bet.”
She had also heard a version of the party incident from Lena, who painted Sophie as manipulative and cruel. In Nina’s eyes, Sophie didn’t deserve to even be in Morgan Group, let alone manage them.
“So what?” Sophie asked mildly. “Your discontent is your problem, not mine.”
Nina’s hands clenched at her sides. “Don’t you feel guilty sitting in that seat?”
“The only achievement you can claim is winning the Starlight Cup. But do you realize that under Liam’s mentorship, Liora has won it three years a row?”
“People like her should be manager, not you. That’s what would command respect.”
Her words struck a chord, and murmurs rippled through the conference room
The truth was, they were all envious of the position. But most never dared challenge Liam, especially with a star designer like Liora backing him.
