Chapter 118
Someone had moved faster than her. Liam’s fingers turned pale as he gripped the contract, trembling uncontrollably when he saw the words
written on it.
“How is this possible? How could the Morgan Group refuse to renew the contract with Liora?”
Without the Morgan Group’s support, Liora was worthless in his hands.
“The Morgan Group doesn’t need two trump cards. With me here, there’s no reason to keep her around.”
Sophie’s lips curved into an involuntary smile.
The people who had been chattering a moment ago were now frozen in shock, unable to believe what was unfolding before their eyes.
The Morgan Group had given up Liora for Sophie. How could she possibly deserve that?
“Liora won’t be cast aside! I’m going to see Mr. Morgan and ask him myself!”
Liam stood abruptly, almost stumbling as he rose to his feet.
Sophie watched his retreating figure disappear, her eyes flickering with a trace of melancholy.
Liora wasn’t being abandoned. She was simply free.
And when Liam finally realized Liora no longer held any value, that would be the moment Sophie would take her back.
Clearing her throat, Sophie looked around the conference room with a stern expression.
“Now then, does anyone still doubt whether I deserve this position?”
The room fell silent. Even Nina, who had been the loudest just moments ago, didn’t dare say a word.
“Since no one has objections, let’s go over the reports one by one.”
Sophie settled casually into the head seat, her presence radiating undeniable authority.
The designers exchanged nervous glances. They had just offended her, and none of them dared to be the first to speak, terrified she’d single
them out.
Sophie’s pale fingers tapped the table lightly before her gaze locked onto Nina’s evasive eyes.
“You were the first to stand up earlier. Now, you’ll be the first to report,”
Nina felt a chill run down her spine. She wished she could sink straight into the floor.
Sophie was clearly making an example of her.
“Don’t make me repeat myself,” Sophie said, her tone sharpening with impatience.
Nina forced herself to rise, stammering as she began her report.
Meanwhile, Liam was stopped outside the CEO’s office by Chris.

Chapter 118
“Mr. Chris, I want to discuss the decision not to renew with Liora. Please let Mr. Morgan know I’d like to speak with him.”
Chris’s face was expressionless. “Mr. Morgan said he won’t see you.”
“Mr. Chris, I-”
“Mr. Liam, you just fought hard to get back into the Morgan Group, I doubt you’d want to risk being fired again on your very first day back.”
Liam caught the warning hidden in Chris’s words and quickly stepped back.
“If Mr. Morgan won’t see me, then I won’t disturb him.”
He turned and left in a hurry, afraid that even a moment’s delay might cost him his job.
Chris went back into the office and reported everything.
Marcus didn’t lift his head, his sharp gaze still fixed on the computer screen.
On the monitor was a live feed from the design department’s conference room. After Nina finished her report, Sophie had raised several questions–yet none of them were petty or vindictive.
Watching her speak with such composure, Marcus’s dark expression softened slightly.
Chris stepped closer, his tone laced with concern.
“Mr. Morgan, Dr. Mason said you need more rest. You shouldn’t be out of bed yet.”
Marcus closed the laptop. “I know.”
His slender fingers clenched the armrest as he slowly pushed himself to his feet.
Chris rushed forward to help, but Marcus raised a hand to stop him.
“I’m not crippled.”
Chris backed off, trailing him cautiously, terrified he might fall.
After Liam’s scandal broke, the old master had summoned Marcus back to the Morgan estate. Chris had wanted to follow, but Marcus ordered him to wait outside.
Chris didn’t know what had happened inside, only that when Marcus came out the next morning, he could barely walk.
The once proud, untouchable Marcus had been carried out by two servants.
Chris had nearly broken down in tears at the sight, though his professional restraint kept him together.
Not long after, Marcus instructed him to inform HR to reinstate Liam.
Chris could only guess that Marcus’s injuries had something to do with Liam’s scandal. The only mystery left was what role the old master had played.
Two hours later, Sophie’s first meeting as head of the department finally concluded.
They had set the direction for their future work–every designer would now devote themselves fully to preparing for the upcoming Spring Collection showcase.
–in business their design department held a prestigious place in the industry,
