“When did Mr. Morgan ever say he was going to fire Manager Chandler?” Chris’s cold eyes swept over. “Miss Nina, don’t you know that second guessing Mr. Morgan’s intentions is a serious taboo in the Morgan Group?”
Nina stumbled back a few steps. “I–I…”
Sophie stepped forward. “Weren’t you so cocky just now? What’s with the stammering?”
“You, Sophie-”
Sophie cut her off. “Mr. Chris, if I recall correctly, the Morgan Group has a rule that employees who repeatedly show disrespect toward their superiors are to be suspended immediately. Am I right?”
“That’s correct,” Chris replied seriously. “Manager Chandler, do you want me to call HR?”
Sophie didn’t answer. She only stared at Nina in silence.
Nina knew Sophie was doing it on purpose, waiting for her to bow her head.
Grinding her teeth, Nina muttered, “Manager Chandler, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
She had fought hard to get into the Morgan Group. When her father heard, he’d been thrilled, treating her far better than before. She couldn’t afford to be fired now.
Sophie tapped her fingers on the desk, on top of the things Nina had just damaged.
“Manager Chandler, I’ll clean this up right away.”
She hurried to gather the mess.
Sophie didn’t push further. She turned to Chris.
“Thank you for going out of your way to come down here. Please also tell Mr. Morgan… thank you.”
Sophie wasn’t naïve, Chris only took orders from Marcus himself. If Marcus hadn’t given the command, Chris wouldn’t have bothered with any of this.
Chris’s lips curved faintly. “Then I won’t disturb you further. If you need anything, contact me anytime.”
Sophie nodded lightly, watching him leave.
After Nina finished cleaning the desk, she slunk off in humiliation. Sophie settled onto the sofa, ready to get back to work.
Her phone buzzed with a push notification. She glanced at the screen.
“Morgan Group employee attacked en route to hospital–suffers femur fracture, possible permanent disability!”
The blood–red headline flashed before her eyes. It took her several seconds to process it.
A Morgan Group employee? Could it really be Liam?
She opened the attached photo and studied it carefully. Only then did she confirm–it was indeed Liam.
At first, relief swept through her. But soon her brows furrowed.

Chapter 121
She remembered Marcus’s earlier words: How many days do you want him in the hospital?
Her fingers whitened around the phone, her eyes clouded with conflicted emotion.
What did Marcus mean by that? Why was he doing this?
Everything Marcus had done these past days was etched in her mind, Sometimes she even allowed herself dangerous thoughts.
It felt as if he didn’t truly despise her. Maybe he even… cared..
But if that wasn’t just her imagination, then how was she supposed to explain that phone call?
Sophie rubbed her aching temples. When she opened her eyes again, they were clear and resolute.
She needed to find a chance to ask him directly. Whether it was disgust or desire, there had to be an answer.

In the days that followed, Sophie threw herself completely into preparing for the Spring Collection. She had no time to think about Liam’s condition, and no one from his side came to stir trouble.
Designers gradually submitted their work, but even Sophie–an outsider to fashion–could see the half–hearted effort.
She called another meeting. This time, the only person who showed up was Nina.
Sophie’s brows knitted. “Where is everyone?”
Nina casually propped her phone on the table, feigning innocence. “No idea. Maybe they’re busy.
“After all, you’ve been rejecting everyone’s drafts. Of course they’re scrambling to revise instead of wasting time in meetings.”
Sophie’s gaze flicked to Nina’s phone, her smile faint.
“Since they didn’t come, you’ll come with me to the factory.”
Nina’s face went pale. “Why? I’m not going!”
“Then go home and wait for your termination letter.”
Sophie didn’t waste words. She picked up her bag and walked out.
Panicked, Nina grabbed her phone and ran after her. “Fine! I’ll go!”
Damn Sophie–always threatening her.
“Today we’re going to one of the Morgan Group’s textile factories. Read up on the materials on the way.”
Once in the car, Sophie handed over a folder and then bent over her own work.
Nina slipped her phone inside the folder and began typing into a group chat.
‘Did you guys see that? Sophie’s face went pale when no one showed up for the meeting.‘
