Chapter 122
Chapter 122
“I know Sophie can be willful sometimes, always throwing tantrums and making things difficult for people around her. I hope everyone, for my sake, won’t hold it against her.”
“The Spring Collection is critical for our design department. Choosing fabrics the top priority. I need everyone to fully cooperate make sure nothing goes wrong.”
“On Monday, Mr. Morgan will personally attend the morning meeting to check on our progress. If there’s any problem with the fabrics, he’ll be furious–he might even fire Sophie on the spot.”
“So please, help Sophie pick the right fabrics. Don’t let anything slip.”
At the end of the messages, Liam even tagged Nina and added several bowing emojis.
As an intern, Nina had never been entrusted with such responsibility. But she wasn’t stupid–she instantly caught the hidden meaning behind Liam’s words.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Liam. I’ll make sure to assist Manager Chandler with the fabric selection.”
Liam read her reply from his hospital bed and allowed himself a smile.
Lena handed him a peeled apple, her face filled with concern.
“Brother, those people who ambushed you on the way to the hospital–that wasn’t random. Are we really not going to investigate?”
Liam put away his phone, his expression darkening.
“This matter is closed. Don’t bring it up again.”
“And Sophie hitting you–are we just letting that go too?” Lena’s eyes welled with tears.
Liam’s patience thinned. “Lena, why are you becoming so disobedient lately? I said it wasn’t worth pursuing. Why do you keep asking?”
Her eyes reddened, lips trembling with frustration. She couldn’t understand what spell Sophie had cast. Since the broken engagement, Liam’s feelings had grown stranger by the day.
He had been beaten bloody, and yet whenever he saw a photo of Sophie, he smiled–as though he were gazing at prey, his eyes brimming with possessiveness.
His voice softened. “Lena, I didn’t mean to snap at you. You’ve worked hard taking care of me at the hospital. Starting today, go home and rest. I’ll hire
a nurse here.”
“Brother, are you-”
“Lena.” He cut her off coldly. “Your brother doesn’t like disobedient children,
Her lips pressed tight. Finally, she nodded. “I understand, brother.”
When their car reached the factory, Sophie didn’t get out right away. Instead, he turned to Nina.
“You’ve been on your phone the whole ride. Is this your idea of professionalism?”
Nina’s chest tightened, but she retorted, “Fabric selection is a basic course for fashion design students. The files you gave me don’t even cover what our textbooks do…
“I know you got this position through a bet, but don’t tell me you don’t know something that basic.”

Chapter 122
Sophie glanced at the untouched folder and sighed softly.
If Nina insisted on digging her own grave, there was nothing she could do.
They entered the factory one after the other. A man wiping sweat from his brow hurried over.
“Manager Chandler, welcome. I’m the head of textile processing here. Just calline Mr. Lee.”
He shook Sophie’s hand warmly.
“When I got your message, I couldn’t believe it. I never imagined you’d come in person to select fabrics.”
In the past, the design department always sent someone to collect samples. Never once had a department manager come personally.
“I’ve reviewed the samples, and none of them met my expectations. That’s why I came–to discuss the fabric issues in detail.”
Mr. Lee froze, his smile stiffening. “Manager Chandler, we only work with a limited range of fabrics. If you’re expecting fabric alone to achieve your design goals, you’re asking too much.”
“Mr. Lee, don’t take it to heart,” Nina cut in quickly. “Our Manager Chandler has no background in fashion design. She tends to get unrealistic ideas. Just humor her.”
Mr. Lee’s face eased, but his demeanor toward Sophie cooled noticeably.
“Since you’ve never worked with fashion before, Manager, let’s show you the production floor. Maybe then you’ll have more realistic expectations.”
He turned and strode off.
Sophie didn’t mind. She followed without complaint.
She actually wanted to see the production process–it was the only way to know if her concepts could be realized.
Seeing Sophie remain calm, Nina assumed she was simply insecure about her lack of knowledge. That made her all the bolder.
Before long, Nina picked up a bolt of teal satin.
“Manager Chandler, I think this fabric’s great. Designers rarely use it, so it could be innovative.”
Sophie gave it a cursory glance. “Fine. Take it.”
Mr. Lee’s face twisted. “Manager Chandler, this material isn’t-”
“Mr. Lee, let’s keep moving,” Sophie interrupted casually, walking on.
