Chapter 124
“Yesterday I accompanied Manager Chandler to the factory to choose fabrics. We worked until late at night.”
Marcus’s dark eyes shifted toward Sophie. “Is that true?”
“Yes, but-”
Before Sophie could finish, Nina cut her off eagerly, seizing the chance like a lifeline.
“Mr. Morgan, since my work is tied to Manager Chandler’s, why don’t you just let her present?
“She picked out plenty of fabrics for the Spring Collection. I’m sure she has a lot she wants to share.”
Liam’s lips curved slightly as he gazed at Sophie with practiced gentleness.
“Manager Chandler has worked hard these past days. Nina is still just an intern–her composure isn’t fully developed yet. With you here, Mr. Morgan, of course she’s nervous.
“For the sake of the meeting, why not let Manager Chandler go first?”
Inside, Sophie sneered. They weren’t even hiding their schemes anymore. Did they really take her for a fool?
“Fine. I’ll go first.”
Her smile was faint but steady as she walked to the podium.
A searing gaze followed her. When she looked up, her eyes locked with Marcus’s phoenix–like stare.
For a heartbeat, Sophie’s chest tightened. She wasn’t afraid of presenting, but being pinned by his eyes in front of everyone made her nerves flutter.
Marcus seemed to notice. His lips quirked in the barest hint of a smile before he looked away.
The exchange lasted only seconds, unnoticed by most–everyone else was waiting for Sophie’s humiliation.
Everyone except Liam, who clenched his fist under the table, fury smoldering in his eyes.
How dare she flirt with his uncle in front of him?
“Bring me the fabrics we brought from the factory,” Sophie said to Nina.
Nina bit back a laugh as she fetched them. The others all smirked, eager for the show.
After all, Nina had told them in the group chat how Sophie had chosen all the wrong fabrics. Today would expose her as a joke.
Even Liam had dragged himself here in a wheelchair just to watch her fail.
As the fabrics were laid out, one designer scoffed.
“Manager Chandler spent all day at the factory, and this is what she brought us?”
Another chimed in. “It’s all satin and silk, and ugly colors at that. Don’t tell me you don’t know those aren’t suited for spring or summer?”
A third snorted. “Come on, she’s a jewelry designer. She doesn’t understand clothing. Anyone with a shred of knowledge would know not to pick th
stuff.”
Their jeers grew bolder when Sophie didn’t respond, completely forgetting Marcus was in the room.
Finally, Liam coughed lightly, cutting them off.

Chapter 124
“Manager Chandler is a newcomer in fashion. Mistakes are inevitable. Show some tolerance.”
Nina pounced. “Exactly! I’m just an intern, so if I slip up, it’s understandable. art from the bottom because I know I need to learn.
“But our general manager? If the one leading us is clueless and keeps making rookie mistakes, that’s what truly shames this department.
“Back when we had no manager, under Mr. Liam’s leadership, we never made such blunders. Now, barely after she arrives, we’re already embarrassed. Forgive me, but I don’t believe Manager Chandler can lead us. Only with Mr. Liam can we feel secure.”
Her words were brazen. The other designers didn’t dare speak, but their faces made their feelings obvious.
Marcus’s lips curved faintly as he turned his eyes on Sophie, one brow lifting
amusement.
As if to say: Do you need my help?
Sophie’s gaze swept past him, calm and dismissive. She didn’t need saving.
“So what you mean,” she asked coolly, “is that you want Liam as your manager instead?”
Though directed at Nina, her eyes scanned the whole room.
Good. This meeting was the perfect chance to see who still stood by Liam.
Most dropped their heads or pretended to study their notes, avoiding her gaze Only Nina and the two designers who had mocked her earlier looked defiant.
Sophie nodded slightly, then gestured at the fabrics.
“As you’ve all noticed, these fabrics–whether by material or color–are completely unsuitable for our Spring Collection.
