Chapter 126
Nina’s words chilled the room. The lively chatter died at once, leaving the atrisphere heavy and awkward.
They should have backed Nina, but after the fabric reveal, they couldn’t agree with her anymore.
Still, with Liam sitting there, praising Sophie openly might seem disloyal.
Liam broke the silence himself.
“It’s fine. I also think Manager Chandler’s fabric innovation is impressive. Looks like our department may achieve another breakthrough this year.
“She’s barely arrived and already contributed so much–I can’t help feeling ashamed.
“I’ve been a team leader for years and never sparked such passion in you. No wonder I’ve remained just a team leader.”
Nina rushed to defend him.
“Mr. Liam, don’t belittle yourself. She only pulled this stunt because she knows her skills are lacking–cheap tricks to grab everyone’s attention.
“Mr. Morgan probably praised it because the fabric looks novel. But if our Spring Collection relies only on this gimmick, there’s no way he’ll be satisfied!”
Her words dripped with disdain as she looked Sophie up and down, nose practically in the air.
Sophie sat back quietly, listening to their back–and–forth, her face calm and unreadable.
Her gaze swept across the room. Fewer dared speak up. The corner of her lips curved faintly.
The hunt could begin.
Nina, emboldened by Sophie’s silence, lifted her chin and strode over.
“Manager Chan-”
Sophie pressed a pale finger to her lips. Silence.
Her gesture was light as a feather, yet her aura brooked no defiance.
From her briefcase, she drew out a contract and handed it forward.
“Miss Nina, on behalf of the design department, I officially inform you: you are terminated.”
Nina’s eyes widened. “Sophie, you can’t fire me–you don’t have that authority!
Sophie gave a cold laugh, folding her arms.
“The terms are in black and white. If you have doubts, check with HR. Or, if you’d like, take it up with Legal. Who knows, maybe you’ll squeeze a few more dollars in severance.”
Nina scanned the contract again and again, her face flushing red with rage.
“Even if you’re the manager, you can’t just fire me! I’ve worked hard by your side these days–how can you dismiss me like this?”
Her voice trembled, eyes wet with tears.
Two designers who had backed Nina earlier jumped to their feet.
“Manager Chandler, Nina’s still a student. If her first internship ends in dismissal, no design house will ever hire her again.”

Chapter 126
“Exactly. She only spoke some harsh truths. You didn’t like hearing them, fine but you can’t ruin her future over it.”
Sophie smiled faintly, pulling out two more contracts.
“No need to plead. These are yours.”
Their pupils shrank.
“Manager Chandler, this is outrageous! Just for defending her, you’re firing too? What gives you that right?”
“I’ve never heard of Morgan Group letting a lowly department head fire people on her own. We signed contracts! You can’t do this!”
Nina straightened, emboldened.
“Right! We all have contracts–you can’t just kick us out!”
Sophie’s voice was calm, even tinged with contempt.
“If you can read, check the contracts again.”
They bent over the pages, only to find each one included proper severance. But also a black mark: they were cited for inciting factions, defying orders, and obstructing work. The notice would circulate the entire industry.
And at the bottom–clear as day–was Marcus’s personal seal.
No escape.
Nina’s hands shook. “Impossible. Mr. Morgan would never approve something this extreme.”
Morgan Group almost never laid people off. Getting in was considered a lifetime guarantee. Especially now, with the department short on staff–why would Marcus let skilled designers be fired?
Sophie’s voice cut through their denial.
“If you’ve read it, then leave. We still have an internal meeting. You’re not welcome.”
Her white fingers tapped the table, faster and faster–a warning her patience was gone.
The rest of the designers sat frozen, their nerves taut.
They saw the thick stack of contracts in her folder. Who knew if their own names were in there too?
Nina’s tearful eyes darted to Liam, begging. But before she spoke, he waved a dismissive hand.
“You should leave now.”
He was abandoning them.
“Mr. Liam, everything we did against her was at your command. You can’t-”
