Chapter 146
After returning to the design department, Sophie briefly explained the follow up work arrangements before heading back to her the stack of books seriously.
What she had said in the meeting earlier wasn’t just to brush off Liam–it was because she had already decided to strengthen her fonderin Now that Liam had personally handed her these resources, Sophie certainly had no reason to refuse.
Knock, knock, knock!
The door of her office rattled, and Sophie looked up.
“Lily, is something urgent?”
Lily, one of the senior designers, had been with the Morgan Group for years and had weathered plenty of storms. She wouldn’t have come in to flustered unless it was something serious.
“Manager Chandler, we just went to the Purchasing Department to get some work supplies, but they rejected our request.*
She placed a rejection slip on Sophie’s desk–the large red stamp of REJECTED was impossible to miss.
Sophie wasn’t surprised. “Any other trouble?”
“Not just Purchasing. The Planning Department, Finance, and every other department has rejected our requests. If this continues, our work in the design department won’t be able to move forward at all!”
Lily’s voice carried urgency.
“Ever since the Spring Collection launch, orders have been flooding in. Even under normal circumstances, it’s already hard to finish everything on time. Now, with them deliberately blocking us, we can’t keep up at all!”

Sophie poured her a cup of warm water and handed it over. “Don’t panic. Every problem has a solution.”
Lily sipped it anxiously. “Manager Chandler, we all know you’re in a tough position too, but the truth is, we’re just a group of small designers. We can’t fight someone like Director Morgan. Everyone asked me to come in here because they want an answer from you–how are we supposed to keep working? Are we just going to watch the design department collapse after finally rising to its peak?
“The Spring Collection reignited everyone’s passion. If they crush us like this, none of us will be willing to accept it!”
Sophie opened her drawer, pulled out a stack of pre–approved leave forms, and set them on the desk.
“These are your leave requests you submitted earlier. I’m approving them now. From today, the entire design department is on leave.
“Go home and rest, travel if you want, sketch at home if you like–but stop worrying about company work for now.”
Lily’s brows furrowed. “Manager Chandler, what do you mean? Are you dismissing us?”
“Of course not.” Sophie smiled faintly. “These are leave slips, not dismissal letters.
“Any design work you do during your break still belongs to the Morgan Group.”
At first Lily was confused, but then her eyes lit up with sudden understanding.
“Manager Chandler, are you saying…”
“istribute these to everyone. Let them go home.”
Sophie cut her off calmly.
What En planning has nothing to do with you. All you need to do is follow instructions. Whatever the outcome, none of you will hear the
name.
Just test. After all you’ve endured preparing for the Spring Collection, I was planning to give you a long break anyway.”
Lily’s eyes grew red as she clutched the leave forms.
“No matter what happens, Manager Chandler, we’ll stand with you.”
Sophie patted her shoulder with a gentle smile. “Don’t worry, Things aren’t as bad as they look. I have a plan.”
When Lily left and distributed the slips, the other designers immediately understood Sophie’s strategy.
If every department refused to cooperate, then fine–let the design department shut down completely.
With the Spring Collection still riding a wave of hype, orders kept pouring in. Without the design department’s output, the other departments would grind to a halt.
The financial losses to the Morgan Group would be catastrophic.
Even if this move didn’t guarantee them any protection, at least it would force the higher–ups to pay attention–and Liam would not be able to dodge the responsibility,
They knew it was risky, but at this point, they had no other choice.
Ten minutes later, the design department was empty.
After confirming they had all gone, Sophie grabbed her bag and strolled out of the Morgan Tower herself.
The moment she sat down in her car, her phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen–Principal Richard Harris.
Sophie blinked in surprise, “Professor, I didn’t expect you to call me.”
Sophie had graduated top of her class in design at Riverland University, with Principal Harris as her mentor. Back then, he had pinned great hopes on her.
But after graduation, Sophie had foolishly followed Liam around, throwing away her own talent.
Mr. Harris had called her countless times, urging her to continue pursuing her career, but she had always brushed him off. Disappointed, he had eventually stopped reaching out.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on recent events,” Mr. Harris said warmly. “That Spring Collection showcase was outstanding. I always told you–if you stuck with it, you’d achieve something remarkable.”
