“Liam…what do you mean by this? You’re protecting her?”

Lena’s voice trembled, eyes wide with disbelief.

Liam lifted his gaze, but there was no trace of affection in his eyes.

“Lena, don’t make a scene.”

“Don’t make a scene?” Her voice cracked, rising to a scream. “I’m carrying your child! And now you’re shielding a woman who deliberately seduced you–and you tell me not to make a scene?”

“I gave up everything for you, Liam! Everything! Just to be with you–how could you do this to me?”

Liam sneered. “Everything for me? You mean when you tampered with my brakes? You risked it all, sure–but too bad I didn’t die. Too bad your child didn’t get to play its ultimate role.”

Lena’s pupils shrank, her face draining of color.

“W–what are you talking about? Tampered with your brakes? I don’t understand!”

His tone cut like ice.

“You knew you were pregnant. You knew I couldn’t let Sophie go. So you sabotaged my car. If I’d died, all my assets would’ve gone to the child you carry. You wouldn’t have had my heart–but you’d have had my name, my status. My widow.”

His voice grew colder.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t die. But I was crippled. And that’s the only reason I’ve put up with you this long–because of the child in your belly.”

Lena shook violently, lips quivering. She thought she’d hidden everything perfectly. How had he found out?

“Liam, did Sophie tell you this? She’s slandering me! She has no proof–you can’t believe her!”

“Ha.” His smirk was cruel. “Proof or not, your reaction just now was all the proof I needed.”

He leaned forward, eyes blazing with disgust.

“You make me sick, Lena.”

As soon as the words fell, Lena gasped. Pain ripped through her abdomen, and warm blood trickled down her legs.

“My…my stomach…Jiam, I’m bleeding!”

Everyone’s attention whipped toward her.

Her pale nightdress bloomed with crimson, dripping onto the floor in a spreading pool of red.

Irene was the first to move, rushing to her daughter’s side.

“Lena! Don’t you dare scare me–my grandson, you can’t lose him!”

She spun toward Liam, desperation in her voice.

But Liam just sat there, phone in hand, unmoving. His eyes were unreadable.

Sophie couldn’t hold back her fury.

“Liam, are you insane? Call the damn ambulance! That’s your child–don’t be stupid!”

Her voice shook with rage. As a woman carrying her own unborn child, she knew exactly how much terror Lena must be feeling. She couldn’t just stand by and watch a life vanish.

But Liam’s grip tightened on the phone, his face hard.

“Sophie, don’t think I don’t know what you’re really after. The second I dial, Marcus will trace the call. Everything I’ve done will be wasted. I’m not calling.”

“You-!” Sophie’s voice cracked, her chest burning with disbelief. She knew Liam was shameless, but she never imagined he’d sink low enough to gamble with a baby’s life.

“Liam, she’s your only child!” Irene sobbed, shaking. “How can you say no?”

His roar cut her off, low and furious.

“Who said that’s my only child?”

His gaze shifted to Sophie, burning with something twisted.

“I feel something for her. She can give me children–more than one. Mom, if you want grandsons, she and I will give you as many as you want.”

Irene’s breath caught, her eyes lighting up with a grotesque hope.

“You…you’re serious?”

“I’d never lie about this. You’ll have plenty of grandsons, Mom. But if I make that call, Marcus will wipe us all out. You won’t live to see a single

one.”

Irene’s tears dried instantly. Her expression hardened.

“Then we can’t call. We absolutely cannot!”

“Mom…even you?” Lena’s voice was broken, gasping, “I’m still your daughter! You raised me for twenty years. You’d throw me away too?”

Her body shook violently as more blood poured down her legs.
