Her once–round, delicate face had now grown sharp, her cheeks sunken into a skeletal outline.
Marcus’s gaze never left Sophie. “She’s out of danger,” he said quietly.
“These past days she’s suffered severe malnutrition, and the emotional strain brought on a high fever. The fever has broken now. Once she rests, she’ll wake up on her own.”
Sherry Shaw let out a long breath, her eyes red as she clutched Sophie’s hand.
“Sophie, you’ve suffered so much. I should’ve protected you better.”
Ethan Chandler stepped forward, giving Marcus a slight nod.
“Thank you, Mr. Morgan.”
If it weren’t for Marcus, he would never have found Sophie this quickly.
“No need to thank me.” Marcus’s voice was hoarse. “Now that you’ve seen her, you can be at ease.”
. “You should both head back. I’ll stay here with her.”
Ethan frowned. “Mr. Morgan, that’s not appropriate.”
The relationship between Sophie and Marcus was far from settled; if he stayed, tongues would wag.
Marcus shot him a cold glance. “With me, there’s only what I want, not what’s appropriate.”
With that, he sat down, his sharp eyes fixed solely on Sophie.
Sherry tugged at Ethan’s sleeve and whispered, “Let’s go.”
Ethan’s brows were furrowed tight, but before he could object, Sherry gave him a hard yank, pulling him out of the ward.
Once the door shut behind them, Ethan shook her hand off.
“Why drag me out?”
“Couldn’t you see Mr. Morgan wanted time alone with Sophie?” Sherry looked at him in exasperation.
“Do you even understand how the world works? He went through hell to find her. He’s finally got her back. Of course he doesn’t want an
audience.”
Ethan still looked troubled.
Sherry rolled her eyes. “Their relationship is unclear? Sophie is carrying Marcus’s child, and he’s publicly vowed to take responsibility. He just handed over Morgan Group for her sake! Anyone with eyes can see where this is going.”
Hands on her hips, she lectured like he was a schoolboy.
“What, you think feelings only count if there are roses and balloons? After everything Sophie and Marcus have survived together, you still think there’s nothing between them? Ethan, stop being so stiff. Let them have their time.”

Chapter 200
Ethan said nothing, following her out of the hospital. But just before getting into the car, he glanced back at the ward, unease written all over his
face.
Inside, Marcus leaned back in his chair, eyes locked on Sophie. He still hadn’t shaken off the fear of losing her. He still couldn’t quite believe she was really here, safe.
No one knew what he had endured these past days. No one knew the depth of his terror.
The moment he pushed open that door and saw Sophie drenched in blood, his heart stopped. His mind went blank; he didn’t dare move closer.
Only when she had whispered his name, broken and faint, had he come back to life.
That feeling–he never wanted to go through it again.
His long, slender fingers brushed over the back of her hand. With a slight squeeze, he enclosed her small palm within his.
“Sophie…you’re alive. Thank God.”
His chest loosened as he exhaled, tightening his grip just a little.
“Marcus…”
The soft murmur made his heart jolt. His pupils contracted sharply.
Sophie’s eyelids fluttered open, her voice raspy.
“You’ve been staring at me all this time. I thought you were about to say something important.”
Before she could say more, she was swept into a trembling embrace.
Marcus held her tightly, his body quivering.
Sophie patted his back lightly. “Marcus…are you crying?”
“Shut up,” he muttered, his voice rough, stubborn.
She smiled faintly. “Alright, alright, I won’t say a word.”
Too weak to hold herself up, Sophie leaned her head against the back of his neck. Their ears brushed, warmth flowing through every nerve.
For the first time, Marcus finally let himself breathe. Sophie was back.
At some point, the sound of soft breathing filled the room. Marcus smiled, tucking her gently under the blanket.
The doctor had warned her body was still frail, that she would sleep long and often–that it was normal.
The sudden trill of a phone broke the silence. Marcus answered while stepping into the bathroom.
On the other end, Chris’s voice came through.
“Mr. Morgan, half an hour ago the chairman completed all the transfers. But…he didn’t sign the shares into his own name.”
Marcus didn’t flinch. “Whose name,
