Chapter 201
Chapter 201
Just as Sophie was about to reply, Marcus rushed out in a panic.
The moment he saw her, his frantic expression finally eased.
“Why did you come out on your own?”
He had woken to find the hospital bed empty, and terror had clawed at him again that suffocating fear of losing her all over.
“I couldn’t sleep. I just needed some air.”
Sophie’s eyes were red, her voice tinged with a soft sob.
Marcus’s heart hurched painfully. He walked over and sat right beside her.
“Why are you crying?”
Sophie pulled her phone back a little. “It’s nothing.”
“I’m just tired. Let’s go back to the room.”
But Marcus took her hand and slipped the phone easily from her grasp.
The screen was still lit. A glance told him everything.
“You cried because of this?”
“No.” Sophie shot back, reaching to snatch her phone, but Marcus slid it into his pocket, leaning back with his arms folded and a roguish grin tugging at his lips.
“If you want it, you’ll have to get it yourself.”
Sophie flushed crimson. “You’re shameless!”
He had tucked the phone down against his thigh on purpose, knowing she wouldn’t dare reach there.
“Don’t waste your time on the nonsense online. The more you read, the more brain cells you lose.”
He tilted his head, his voice teasing but sharp.
“You’re not crying because you’re worried I can’t afford to raise the baby now, are you?”
“Don’t joke about that.”
Sophie’s face scrunched up. “Tell me the truth–did you really do what they’re saying online? You just handed the entire Morgan Group over to the old
man?”
“Yeah.” Marcus’s tone was almost casual. “It’s just a company. Having it doesn’t define me, and losing it doesn’t erase me. Don’t forget–Morgan Group exists because of me. Not the other way around.”
His voice carried that familiar, unshakable arrogance.
Sophie’s frown softened. “So this is all part of your plan? You still have something up your sleeve, don’t you?”
“Something like that.”
Marcus reached out, fingers brushing through her hair, giving it a gentle rub
“Rest for now. When the old man holds his press conference, I’ll take you to watch the show.”

Chapter 201
Sophie finally let herself breathe again. Maybe things werent andire at the feared.
“Come on, back to bed.”
Marcus stood and rugged lightly at her sleeve tatil she followed him back inthe ward.
Sophis climbed into bed, pulling the covers up, while Marcus dragged the small couch right up to her bedside
What are you doing?” she asked, puzzled.
“Making sure you don’t wander off again.”
He folded himself awkwardly onto the too small couch, long legs cramped, solderstense
You should go lie down properly. That looks miserable.”
“I’m fine here. I’m not leaving.”
With that, Marcus closed his eyes.
Sophie sighed softly and didn’t push it further. Somehow, after all that had happened, his care for her felt even more intense
It warmed her, but also unsettled her.
A man like Marcus could win any woman’s heart without trying. She was no exception. She had to admit–she’d fallen for him. Maybe she even wanted
forever.
But how long would his love last? Would they end up like Liam and Lena–another tragedy in the making?
Her thoughts tangled. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
“Can’t sleep?”
His husky voice drifted from the shadows.
Through the faint moonlight, Sophie saw his eyes open slowly.
“Sorry…did I wake you?” she asked, guilt in her voice.
“I wasn’t asleep.”
Marcus leaned back, arms folded behind his head.
“Tell me–how did they treat you all this time?”
Sophie rolled over to face him.
“They didn’t put my life in danger. That’s something, I guess.”
A cold smile tugged at his lips. “If they had, they wouldn’t still be breathing.”
“Tell me everything. Don’t gloss over it.”
Sophie hesitated, then began quietly.
“I woke up in that house. Liam, Irene, and Lena were there. Meals were delivered on schedule every day.”
“At first it was fine, but as the days dragged on, Irene lost patience. She took out her temper on me, yelling all kinds of filth.”
“Just yelling?” Marcus’s gaze flicked to the faint bruises on Sophie’s face. “Who hit you?”
