Marcus’s gaze lingered on their intertwined fingers, the warmth of their connection suddenly feeling like a burning brand. Sophie, caught off guard by the intensity of the moment, instinctively retracted her hand as if it had been scorched.

“Uncle,” Liam’s voice broke the tension, awkwardly slicing through the charged atmosphere.

Marcus, however, didn’t even spare Liam a glance. He continued to stride forward, his back a wall of indifference.

After a few strides, he halted abruptly, his voice low yet firm. “Grandfather doesn’t appreciate guests who show up late.”

Liam, sensing the gravity of the moment, replied hastily, “We’re going in now.”

“That Chandler girl is nothing but a pretty face. What else does she have to offer?”

“My son marrying her is already a generous act, and they have the audacity to ask for money? They must be dreaming! She should contribute a dowry to this union!”
