Chapter 242
Marcus furrowed his brows.
Though the term was a bit harsh, it was somewhat accurate.
Looking at Sophie’s mischievous grin, he tightened his grip on her waist and suddenly pulled her into his chest.
Their lips unintentionally met. “Anyway, you’re not escaping,” he murmured.
Sophie, seizing the moment, leaned against Marcus, nuzzling him like a little kitten. “I’m not running away. I’m right here.”
That nuzzle… might be a bad idea….
Marcus’s body stiffened, a flash of helplessness crossing his eyes. He stared at Sophie for a moment before setting her beside him.
The heat between his legs spread through his body, and he rubbed his forehead.
Sophie gave him a sly smile. “Looks like you’re quite lively, Mr. Morgan.”
Marcus turned toward her. “Sophie! Stop stirring things up. You’re going to be responsible for it later!”
She just giggled and immediately closed her mouth.
In Marcus’s arms, Sophie peacefully fell asleep.
He gently lifted her, carried her to the bedroom, and changed her into comfortable sleepwear. Then, he sat on the bed and began fiddling with his phone.
Not long after, the room lights went out, and Marcus lay down. Sophie, like a kitten, snuggled into his arms.
He smiled and softly kissed her forehead.
The next morning.
Sophie hadn’t slept so comfortably in a long time, but the person beside her had disappeared.
Looking at the discarded clothes, a wave of embarrassment surged over her.
“Awake? Breakfast’s ready.” The half–open door creaked as Marcus entered.
On his hand, the ring on his ring finger was especially noticeable.
He wore glasses and comfy home clothes that concealed his impressive figure. His hair fell neatly, and he looked nothing like the sharp businessman he was. His whole appearance radiated a “husband” vibe.
Seeing that Sophie wasn’t moving, he walked up to her. “Do I have to carry you to breakfast, sweetheart?”
As he said this, he lifted Sophie’s arms and draped them over his neck, then grabbed her waist. Instinctively, Sophie wrapped her legs around his waist.
But the word “husband” echoed in her mind…
At the thought, a rush of shyness filled her. She buried her face into Marcus’s neck, her warm breath tickling him, making him twitch in response.
The dining table was filled with nutritious meals. After placing Sophie down, Marcus returned to the room to get her slippers.

The man feared by the business world, Marcus, was taking care of Sophie as if she were the most precious thing in the world.
“Wait a moment, the milk’s gotten cold. I’ll heat it up.” Marcus said, taking the milk and heading toward the kitchen.
Sophie’s phone buzzed with a few notifications from X.
She opened the app and saw a trending topic with the word “explosion” in bold letters-
“Former CEO of Morgan Group, Marcus, founder of Hills Group, announces engagement!”
Sophie clicked on the post, but words failed her.
It was a post from Marcus’s official Morgan Group account-
“Relationship upgrade, we are now engaged.”
Just a short sentence, but it had already reached over a billion shares. The real–time comments came pouring in like rain.
Those who didn’t get the gossip quickly started digging for more.
Footsteps approached, and Marcus leaned over her shoulder, peering at her phone.
“You posted on the official account…” Sophie turned to look at him, her surprise still lingering, but a sense of unease followed. The internet could I tricky place.
Marcus took advantage of the moment to kiss her cheek, then sat down beside her. “The official account has huge traffic. I want the whole world know.”
Sophie lowered her eyes and continued scrolling through the comments-
“Oh my gosh! Things are moving so fast! Congratulations, congrats! By the way, Mr. Morgan, when are you having the engagement ceremony?”
This comment topped the list because Marcus had replied: “It depends on my fiancée’s thoughts.”
“Oh my gosh! Can someone explain this? He always puts his girlfriend’s feelings first. This guy is a gem, pure gold!”
“More of this! Nothing’s sweeter than unintentional public displays of affection!”
“He always listens to his wife… Looks like Mr. Morgan will be a henpecked husband in the future!”
Reading the comments, Sophie couldn’t help but smile helplessly.
Marcus took the phone from her and handed her the milk. “Eat first. Your health is the most important.”
The warm taste of the milk spread across her tongue, and Sophie found that these days were starting to feel truly wonderful.
Ding ding ding-
The phone rang, and Marcus answered. “Got it.”
The moment he hung up, his face darkened.
Sophie, sensing something was wrong, grew tense. “Is there an emergency?”
Marcus didn’t answer her. He just walked toward the room, quickly changing into a sharp suit.
Something big must’ve happened!
Sophie hurriedly stepped in front of him, her almond–shaped eyes locking onto him. “Tell me, what’s going on?”
