Chapter 241
“But I didn’t dress up today. How about we do it another day?” Sophie was still nervous. As she spoke, she turned to leave, truly pulling off the perfect –
retreat.
But Marcus didn’t give her any time to think. His earlier tenderness vanished instantly. He didn’t let go of her hand but suddenly pulled her back, making her body lurch backward.
Then, with a swift motion, he lifted Sophie off the ground, cradling her in his arms.
As her feet left the floor, Sophie’s mind went blank. She stared at Marcus, a hint of reproach flashing in her eyes.
Marcus’s gaze darkened with an unreadable intensity. Then, he raised an eyebrow. “Now that you’ve come, you’re not leaving.”
He tightened his grip around her and began to walk, taking her down the corridor toward the spacious apartment.
The door was open, revealing the newly renovated interior.
Sophie’s attention shifted, her eyes lighting up. She hadn’t visited the apartment since it was purchased, only having glanced at it briefly when she took possession. The developer’s cheap renovations had been hard to bear.
But now…
The floor–to–ceiling windows revealed a breathtaking view of the CBD, with the river dividing Riverland into two parts.
The open kitchen, something Sophie had specifically requested, stood as she had imagined–an expansive island countertop.
Seeing the apartment now, transformed, Sophie felt tears welling up.
“Marcus!” She turned to him, her voice trembling with excitement.
Just as the music stopped abruptly, Marcus’s arm came around her, trapping her in the small space.
At first, Sophie thought he might be about to kiss her again, but instead, Marcus gently placed a veil over her hair.
Then, he knelt down, his sincere eyes locked onto hers.
“Before I met you, my life was gray. Your presence showed me that love doesn’t suffocate, it’s gentle, it’s always there, caring for me.”
“Your appearance has brightened the darkest corners of my world.”
With that, Marcus pulled out a ring box from his pocket.
As the box slowly opened, the dazzling light of the ring shone brightly.
“You’re the rose, and I’m willing to be the thorned leaf. Marry me, and let me be your armor and your one weakness.”
As the words fell, Sophie’s tears streamed down her face. Her eyes sparkled as she extended her hand. “Then you better be careful, once the bow is drawn, there’s no turning back.”
Marcus slid the diamond ring onto her delicate finger. “My investments have never failed, and you are no exception.”
He stood up, his gaze filled with possessiveness as he pulled Sophie tightly into his arms. “You’ll never escape me in this lifetime.”
Just as his words left his lips, confetti fluttered, and cheers and applause rang out loudly. Sophie froze.
The empty living room was suddenly packed with people, surrounding the couple of the hour.

Cheers filled the air.
“Happy! Happy!”
“Together forever!”
In the midst of all the blessings, Marcus cupped Sophie’s chin, his gaze shifting with affection, then slowly moving toward her lips.
“Now that the mood is set, kiss me!”
With that, his lips descended on hers, the warmth spreading through their mouths. Sophie slowly closed her eyes, tears of happiness gliding Brows bee cheeks. She finally let go of her guard, leaning into him.
In the midst of the applause and cheers, Marcus placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
Even the usually stoic Ethan Chandler managed a smile, his eyes glistening with tears.

The sound of a camera shutter broke through the moment. Ethan quickly wiped the smile from his face, eyeing the side suspiciously.
Sherry looked at the photo on her phone with satisfaction, then nodded approvingly. “I didn’t know you could smile. Why do you always walk around with that stiff face? If I didn’t know better, I’d think you and my dad were from the same generation!”
With that, Ethan’s expression immediately soured. He glanced at Sherry’s delicate doll–like face, then turned away–she seemed like a good girl, ber unfortunately, she had a mouth.
After the excitement, Zack led a few well–mannered young men from the upper class out of the house.
After all, there were too many oddballs in their circle. These were the kind of people Zack had carefully chosen–good at socializing, from good families, highly educated.
And as for the proposal, Marcus had never planned to keep it a secret. Having witnesses from their circle of friends also helped create some buzz
Once the celebration was over, it would be time for their happiness.
On the couch, Sophie relaxed into Marcus’s embrace, listening to his heartbeat. She felt an overwhelming sense of peace.
Marcus gently moved her hand to his and, as they watched the setting sun, he spoke softly, “The moment I got the keys, I started planning.”
Sophie’s heart skipped a beat, and she turned to him, her gaze locking with his warm eyes.
Marcus turned slightly, his possessiveness no longer hidden. He leaned in, gently lifting her chin before pressing his lips to hers again.
There had been too many people earlier, so he hadn’t been able to fully immerse himself.
Sophie didn’t resist, letting him explore and breathe her in.
