Chapter 266
The heavy air in the room lifted in an instant.
Nancy Morris let out a quiet breath of relief.
Sophie raised her glass with a smile.
“Since that’s settled, shall we toast to it?”
Everyone lifted their glasses. For a moment, the table felt less like business partners and more like family.
After all, Sophie and Sherry Shaw had been childhood friends, their families often visiting each other. And Marcus–he was family by marriage.
“Nancy, you’ve worked hard these past years,” Sophie said warmly. “If you have time, have dinner with my parents.”
Nancy smiled faintly. She hadn’t kept up much contact with Mr. and Mrs. Chandler these years; suddenly reaching out felt awkward.
Sophie sensed her hesitation and quickly added,
“Don’t worry, I’ll arrange everything.”
Nancy nodded. Looking up, she noticed Marcus quietly serving Sophie her favorite dishes. Her bowl was full, his expression unreadable, but his eyes never left her.
The silence broke with a phone ringing. Sophie glanced down–an unknown number. She answered.
“Hello?”
“Sophie, I’m Mr. Chandler’s assistant. He asked me to deliver something to you. Could you come collect it?”
Her brother?
But Sophie hadn’t shared her schedule today. Could Sherry have mentioned it by accident? No. They were still at odds–there was no way.
“Alright. I understand.” Sophie hung up, confused.
Why wouldn’t her brother call directly? Why send someone? Suspicion prickled her. She dialed his number immediately.
“Hello.” Ethan Chandler’s voice answered almost instantly, low and steady.
“Did you send something over for me? Was it urgent?” Sophie asked, eyes narrowing.
Marcus’s gaze sharpened on her instantly.
“No,” Ethan replied firmly. “I didn’t send you anything.”
Just as she suspected.
The room grew tense. Marcus signaled for the guards.
Within minutes, they had pinned down a man in the lobby.
“Let me go! I’ll call the cops!” the man shouted, thrashing.
Sophie stepped forward, frowning. She had never seen him before.
But then–eyes glinted from a shadowed hallway. Before anyone could react, figure lunged out.
“Baby! Why did you leave me, baby?!”

Chapter 266
Cold hands clamped onto Sophie’s arm. His voice rasped like a ghost in her ear freezing her in place.
Marcus moved in an instant. His palm slammed into the man’s chest with crushing force.
The intruder staggered back, gasping, collapsing to the floor. Still, he crawled toward Sophie, words spilling out like poison.
“Baby, don’t you remember? Last night you lay in my arms and promised to stay with me forever!”
Marcus’s face darkened, his jaw tightening.
“That’s a lie!” Sophie’s chest heaved as she lurched forward, but Marcus caught her, lifting her into his arms.
She struggled.
“Who sent you? Why are you doing this to me?!”
The man clawed forward.
“You have a birthmark on your left chest–a red mole–you said only I could see it!”
Marcus’s expression turned stormy, his throat working as rage surged.
“Take him away!” he snapped.
The guards clamped a hand over the man’s mouth and dragged him out.
“Wait!” Sophie’s voice cut through, sharp and steady. She looked Marcus straight in the eye.
“Marcus, do you trust me?”
He didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
“Then put me down.”
Marcus obeyed. The guards froze mid–step. Sophie walked toward the intruder.
“You claim we’ve been together? Then tell me–where? Who brought who? Where exactly did it happen?”
Her words cracked like a whip.
The man blinked, then rattled off lines like a rehearsed script.
“Three days ago, Room 912 at the Grand Cross Hotel. You brought me there yourself. You wore a leopard–print skirt.”
Sophie’s lips curved into a cold smile.
“Rehearsed well enough.”
Marcus’s fury flared again.
“Get him out of here. I don’t ever want to see him again.”
The guards hauled the man away.
Sophie turned to Marcus.
“This was just an attempt to drive us apart. You know as well as I do, things like this have happened before. You don’t believe him, do you?”
Her tone was both a question and a challenge.

Chapter 266
Marcus gave a firm nod,
Nancy and Sherry exchanged glances, sensing the tension, before Sherry cleared her throat.
“I’ve got things to do. I’ll head out first.”
Once they left, Sophie sighed in relief and made to leave herself. But Marcus lled her back into his arms, lifting her effortlessly.
“What are you doing?!” she gasped, frowning.
“Going home.” His voice was low, edged with anger.
“I still have work this afternoon!” she protested, wriggling.
“I already called in for you.” His tone was final.
Back home, Marcus set her on the bed. He ripped off his tie, looping it around her wrists and pinning her hands above her head.
“Hey! What are you doing?!” she snapped.
“Leopard–print skirt?” His brow arched accusingly.
Sophie rolled her eyes.
“He made that up!”
Marcus nodded, unbothered.
“I know. But you’ve never worn one just for me.”
He tightened the knot slightly, his other hand trailing across her cheek before lifting her chin. His voice dropped into a teasing growl.
“Baby, I want to see~”
