By evening, Sophie was still leaning breathlessly against the headboard, swear glistening on her skin. The strap of her leopard print dress hung loosely on her arm, her chest rising and falling sharply, She shot a sideways glance at Marcus sprawled beside her like a restless tiger, brows furrowed.
“See? You just had to push it. Now neither of us feels good…” Sophie muttered weakly, giving his firm chest a feeble smack.
Marcus perked up at the word, instantly alert. “You’re not feeling well?”
Sophie rolled her eyes and tapped her belly. “Wi

one here, who could possibly feel comfortable?”
Marcus rubbed his temples, then looked back at her,
shining with unshed tears. “Baby, I’ll hold back. I promise.”
Sophie couldn’t help but laugh. She pinched his face and brushed a quick kiss across his lips before glancing at the clock–it was already past office hours. Forget it. I’ll just treat this as an afternoon off before the newbie joins the department… though hardly restful at all.
She sighed and flopped back against the pillows, unwilling to move.
After a full night’s rest, she felt much better. Early the next morning, Sophie was ready to head to work–until she remembered it was her prenatal check–up. She thought of squeezing it in later, but Marcus dragged her straight to Zack.
“All normal,” Zack said as he handed over the report.
Those four words were the only thing they wanted to hear each month. Sophie and Marcus both let out a long breath of relief.
Just as they were about to leave, Zack called Marcus back.
“Marcus…” He licked his lips, clearly struggling to speak.
“Out with it,” Marcus ordered, voice low and commanding.
“You and Sophie… you really need to cut back a
little.
Color flooded Marcus’s ears almost instantly.
Zack pressed on quickly, “It’s fine occasionally, but too often isn’t good for a pregnant woman. For her health–and for the long run–you need to take it
easy.”
Marcus’s jaw tightened. He clapped Zack on the shoulder hard enough to nearly knock the air out of him.
“…Got it,” he said through clenched teeth before storming out to the car.
“What did Zack want, keeping you so long?” Sophie asked absently, scrolling through an email from Lily.
Marcus coughed. “He said we should… cut back a little.”
10-1
Sophie froze, hand mid–air. Then, before Marcus could look at her, she punched him in the arm, cheeks blazing. “Why do you have to repeat
everything?!”
Marcus rubbed at the sore spot, grinning. “Careful. You still haven’t healed the scratches you left last time.”
That only made her blush harder. She turned away, refusing to speak to him.
Seeing her sulking, Marcus softened. “Alright, alright. He’s a doctor, he just knows things. Sorry, it’s my fault.”
Finally, she turned back, still pouting.
“I promise, it won’t happen again.” Like a contrite child, Marcus took her hand and rubbed it against his cheek until her expression eased.

Chapter 267
The moment was cut short when Chris, the secretary, suddenly yanked open the car door.
Marcus quickly released Sophie’s hand and cleared his throat, resuming his usual stern composure.
“Marcus, do you have a moment?” Chris asked nervously.
“Talk” His glare made the poor man shiver.
“Sophie’s grandson has arrived at the company. Sophie said he’ll be in your care for a while.”
Marcus nodded, then turned to Sophie. “That’s the one I mentioned–the young man joining the design department. His grandfather was an old friend
of mine back in France, a man I owed a great deal to. Now that he’s asked this favor, I can’t say no. But it’ll mean extra work for you.”
Sophie smiled faintly. “It’s fine. You already said–if he doesn’t do well, you’ll send him packing.”
Marcus squeezed her hand firmly. “Exactly.”
They arrived at the tower, rode the elevator, and parted ways on the design floor.
But something felt off. The department was empty, though it was still work hours. Sophie frowned.
“Lily?” she called.
The meeting room door burst open, and Lily rushed out, seizing her arm.
“Manager Chandler! We’ve got a prodigy in here–seriously talented, and super handsome!”
A prodigy? Could this be the boy Marcus mentioned?
Before Sophie could react, Lily pushed her into the meeting room.
The staff were crowded around, eyes fixed on the table. The moment Sophie walked in, they stepped aside.
At the center sat a boy with headphones slung around his neck. He looked up, smiling wide enough to show cute little canine teeth, and jumped to his
feet.
“You must be Sophie Chandler, right?”
“Hello, I’m Nathan Cole,” he said brightly, offering his hand.
The surge of youthful energy caught Sophie off guard. She coughed lightly.
“In the department, just call me Manager Chandler.”
But Nathan only grinned wider and stepped closer.
“Of course, Manager Chandler… sis!”
“I was just showing everyone a piece I designed. Would you like to see it?” he asked eagerly, turning back to the table.
He lifted a sapphire the size of a dove’s egg, cut into the shape of a crescent moon. It sparkled brilliantly, surrounded by tiny diamonds forming a ring
of stars–truly a moon among stars.
“So large, and with such fine color–rare indeed! For Nathan to design this on top of finding such a gem, that’s extraordinary!” the staff gushed.
Nathan scratched his head shyly. “Thank you. Honestly, I only have these resources thanks to my family’s support. From now on, working with you all, I hope you’ll forgive my shortcomings and guide me well.”
He bowed deeply.
And just like that, he’d won everyone over.
