Chapter 271
Marcus was completely lost.
But the moment he remembered the uncertainty of Sophie’s pregnancy hormones, he understood. Without hesitation, he handed her his parme
“All the passwords are your birthday.”
Hearing that, Sophie didn’t hesitate either. She went through his phone carefully, and only after checking everything did she finally put her doubts to rest.
“I swear on my late father–if Marcus ever betrays Sophie, may his own family turn against him and may he meet a miserable end Marmer’s gaze was resolute as he raised his hand toward his father’s framed photo.
But before he could finish, Sophie quickly covered his mouth.
“Enough! Don’t ever say something like that again!”
Marcus pulled her into his arms.
“Wife, I told you–I want to live in your heart forever.”
Sophie lowered her eyes, fingers threading through his hair.
“You’re already there.”
“Not enough. It’s still not enough…” His love was a bottomless well–no matter how much she gave, it could never fill him. His embrace tightened until Sophie almost couldn’t breathe.
Only then did he let her go.
After a day’s rest, Sophie did feel much better.
When her parents heard she’d been tired, they immediately wanted to come take care of her. Marcus had no objections, but Sophie firmly refused.
On the phone, she stammered, “Mom, your health isn’t good. There’s no need to tire yourselves out. I have people looking after me here. Don’t worry.”
Perhaps sensing the hidden meaning in her words, Mrs. Chandler exchanged a glance with her husband and replied, “Alright then. But at least bring Marcus to the house for dinner sometime.”
Marcus took the phone from Sophie’s hand, his voice gentle yet firm.
“Dad, Mom, no need to be so formal. Just call me Marcus.”
The softness in his tone was almost frightening. Mr. Chandler forced a smile.
“Alright… Marcus, then. Do you have time this weekend?”
Just saying those two words sent a strange shiver through him, but Marcus was clearly delighted.
“Of course. Just wait at home. I’ll bring Sophie back for dinner.”
After hanging up, Marcus turned to Sophie, adjusting her posture by the waist.

Chapter 271
“Why did you refuse your parems earlier?”
Her eyes darted evasively, but he pinched her thin and made her face him.
“How would it be inconvenient for your parents to come here?”
Sophie blushed crimson, lightly swatting his chest
“You know exactly why?”
Her protest only sparked something in his eyes.
“Marcus! Dr. Mason said we need to hold back!” the scolded.
But he was already a wild stallion, hands gripping her waist, lifting her legs around him.
“You’re the one who lit the fire.”
This time, though they stopped short of the final step, they both ended up breathless and spent
The next day, Sophie returned to work as usual.
She had barely sat down in her office when Nathan appeared, clutching a stack of documents. He stood respectfully by her desk
“Manager Chandler, here are the tasks Ms. Vivian assigned to me. I’ve finished all of them. Besides that, I’d like your feedback on some of my designs.”
His tone today was not as flippant as before. He almost seemed… obedient.
Sophie flipped through the sketches, and one glance left her impressed. Bold colors, innovative patterns. Not just colored gems–he had integrated jade into his designs. It was refreshing, unexpected.
She had to admit, the boy had talent.
“Your work is eye–catching,” Sophie said, nodding. But then her tone sharpened.
“Still, here you’ve confused priorities. The centerpiece is a ruby, but you’ve added soft jade–it feels abrupt. With your skill level, you shouldn’t be making such rookie mistakes.”
Her eyes narrowed, probing. She’d seen geniuses before. And she herself was one. This kind of slip–up felt deliberate.
Nathan leaned closer, studying it.
“What if I switched the jade for obsidian?”
Sophie considered, then handed the sketch back.
“That’s for you to figure out.”
Nathan nodded, his eyes glittering like stars. He smiled, flashing his small tiger teeth.
“Thank you, Manager Chandler. This problem’s been bothering me for a while. How about I treat you to a drink?”
To keep her distance, Sophie declined immediately.
“No need.”
But Nathan pushed his phone toward her.

“It’s fine, really. I promised to treat everyone as thanks for their help these past days. Everyone’s already placed their orders. Please don’t
refuse.”
When she still hesitated, his brows furrowed and his eyes filled with wounded innocence.
“Manager Chandler…. are you rejecting me because you don’t like me?”
Sophie froze. What?
His pitiful expression–if he added a tear or two later–would make her look guilty no matter what. Colleagues‘ misunderstandings were one thing. But if Nathan carried tales back to his grandfather, Marcus would be the one in a bind.
With a sigh, Sophie took his phone and tapped a random option.
Nathan’s voice dripped with concern.
“Ms. Chandler, I heard you weren’t feeling well yesterday. Are you alright now?”
Her smile was strained.
“Thank you for your concern.”
Seeing she wasn’t interested in continuing, Nathan gathered his papers.
“Alright then.”
Once he left, Sophie let out a long sigh, rubbing her temples. She grabbed her own phone and opened a chat-
“Now I finally understand what they mean.”
At that very moment, Marcus was in a meeting. Seeing the message, his brows shot up instantly.
Without hesitation, he fired off an instruction to Chris, his secretary.
“Order afternoon tea?” Chris muttered aloud, baffled Hills Group’s tea service was famous, filled with exquisite Chinese and Western pastries. Why would the CEO suddenly want a spread like this?
Three little words–but Chris couldn’t wrap his head around them.
As soon as the meeting ended, Marcus strode out, adjusting his cufflinks.
Moments later–ding! The elevator opened, and pastry chefs marched in carrying trays.
The design department staff exchanged confused glances.
“Who on earth ordered all this?”
