**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind Yesterday by Asa Rowan Flint**
**Chapter 36**
Sophie felt a surge of panic as she watched Liam storm into the bathroom, an unstoppable force fueled by suspicion. She desperately wanted to reach out and stop him, but her efforts felt futile, as if she were trying to hold back a tidal wave.
The bathroom door swung open with a force that sent a rush of warm air spilling into the hallway, but to her dismay, the room was devoid of any presence.
“I know you’re in here! Come out!” Liam’s voice echoed, filled with a mix of anger and desperation as he began to yank open drawers and cabinets with reckless abandon.
Sophie’s gaze fell upon a glimpse of black fabric peeking out from beneath the curtain—a telltale sign. Marcus! The realization hit her like a bolt of lightning, and without a moment’s hesitation, she dashed toward him, her heart racing.
“Liam, have you completely lost your mind?! What on earth are you accusing me of—hiding someone in here?!” She took a bold stance, her voice sharp and unwavering, but inside, her heart raced with anxiety.
Liam paused, taken aback by her fierce response, but his determination quickly returned. “I swear I saw someone in there!” His voice was a mix of disbelief and frustration, eyes narrowing as he searched for the truth.
“Liam, are you out of your mind?! Don’t you understand how I feel about you? I’m carrying your child! Why on earth would I ever hide another man?! If you truly can’t trust me, then what’s the point of this marriage? I’ll get rid of the baby too!” The intensity of her words hung in the air, fierce yet trembling with underlying fear.
At the mention of the baby and their marriage, Liam’s expression softened. He stepped closer, his hands gently gripping her shoulders. “Sophie, please don’t say things like that. Maybe my eyes were just playing tricks on me. It’s my fault—lately, you’ve seemed so distant, and it’s made me feel insecure. I let my imagination run wild. I’m sorry, okay? Please don’t be angry. Let’s go grab breakfast together.”
As his words washed over her, Sophie felt the tension in her body begin to dissolve, the storm of emotions slowly calming.
They stepped out of the house together, but just as Liam was about to close the door behind them, he paused, casting a lingering glance back toward the bathroom. A sense of unease crept over him—he needed to uncover who Sophie had been meeting lately.
Once they were outside, Sophie quickly typed a message to Marcus, her fingers flying over the screen: “Sorry about today. I’ll apologize properly when I can. I’ve left with Liam. You need to go now—don’t let him find you.” The moment she hit send, she deleted the message, erasing any trace of her communication.
Marcus glanced at his phone, a cold smirk creeping onto his lips as he read her words. Perfect. It was a rare moment for him, finding himself in such an unexpectedly awkward position.
He moved to the window, peering down with an icy detachment.
Just as Liam was about to slide into the car, a sudden chill raced down his spine, causing him to look up. There, silhouetted against the sky, was a tall figure watching him intently.
