**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind**
**Yesterday by Asa Rowan Flint**
**Chapter 39**
Inside the dimly lit room, Sophie felt as though the air had been knocked out of her lungs when Liam abruptly shoved her inside. The door clicked shut behind her, sealing them in a world that felt suddenly too small and too tense.
As reality sank in, she spun around, her instincts screaming for her to escape. But Liam was quick, stepping in front of the door with a determined look etched across his features. “Sophie, we need to have a serious conversation. You haven’t mentioned anything to Uncle Marcus about Liora, have you?”
His words hung in the air, thick with unspoken implications. “So, you’re worried he might discover the truth,” she shot back, her voice laced with a mix of defiance and incredulity.
Sophie crossed her arms tightly over her chest, her heart racing with a blend of frustration and anger. “Liam, I am Liora! There’s someone out there pretending to be me in that competition. If this explodes into a scandal, it won’t just tarnish Liora’s name—it will drag the entire Morgan Group down with it. Can you honestly live with that kind of fallout?”
Liam’s expression shifted, a mask of helplessness settling over his features. “Sophie, I didn’t want it to come to this either. But you’re pregnant—you need to take care of yourself. Mr. Morgan personally insisted that Liora compete. I had no other option.”
Her eyes narrowed, a flash of indignation sparking within her. “Marcus asked Liora to compete? Didn’t he notice that those designs don’t even remotely reflect Liora’s unique style?”
A tumult of emotions churned in her chest, threatening to spill over.
“In the eyes of a businessman, it’s all about the outcome,” Liam continued, his voice steady, almost rehearsed. “Once the name Liora is on that stage, the judges will automatically elevate it in their scores. Uncle Marcus is only focused on winning a trophy and gaining recognition. The true identity of Liora? That’s irrelevant to him.”
“No way!” Sophie retorted, her voice rising with conviction. “Marcus isn’t that kind of person! He wouldn’t disregard the essence of Liora just for the sake of a trophy!”
A flicker of something—perhaps doubt or concern—passed through Liam’s eyes. “Sophie, remember, he’s your elder. You shouldn’t just address him by name like that.”
At his words, Sophie felt her heart skip a beat, and she quickly averted her gaze. “I… I was just feeling overwhelmed,” she stammered, trying to mask the turmoil within her.
