**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind Yesterday by Asa Rowan Flint**

Sophie’s fingers coiled tightly around the fabric of her shirt, her heart racing as she grappled with the weight of her thoughts. The truth clawed at her insides, a truth she knew she could never substantiate. Liora belonged to her, but how could she prove it? The very idea seemed ludicrous, an echo of desperation that would surely fall on deaf ears.

“Believe me or not, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when the Morgan Group finds itself embroiled in a scandal!” she exclaimed, her voice laced with frustration, before turning on her heel to leave the room.

At this moment, her priority was clear: she had to locate Liam. There was no room for a prolonged debate with Marcus; time was slipping away, and every second felt like a lifetime.

But Marcus had other ideas. He stepped forward, effectively blocking her path, his presence imposing.

“Zack mentioned you need to rest,” he stated, his tone carrying an air of authority that irritated Sophie to no end.

“I can manage my own body just fine! What I need is to find Liam!” she shot back, her voice rising with urgency as she shoved him aside, determination fueling her movements. “If you’re not going to help, then just get out of my way!”

In a surprising turn, Marcus seized her wrist, his voice dropping to a serious whisper. “Why do you really want to find him?”

“It’s business!” she insisted, her eyes narrowing as she met his gaze with unwavering resolve.

For a moment, they stood locked in a silent battle of wills, each unwilling to yield. The tension crackled between them, palpable and thick.

Marcus was the first to relent, releasing her wrist with a resigned sigh. “I’ve already had Chris book the tickets. We leave in half an hour.”

Sophie’s heart skipped a beat, her mind racing to process his words. “What?” she blurted, disbelief etching itself across her features.

“We’re heading to South City,” Marcus replied, a hint of something unreadable in his expression as he returned to his desk, the air thick with unspoken thoughts.

A flicker of surprise illuminated her eyes, and the tension that had held her captive began to melt away. “You’re actually willing to help me find him?”

“I’ll assist you,” Marcus affirmed, his gaze darkening with an intensity that made her stomach twist, “but I need you to promise that nothing will happen to that baby.”
