**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind Yesterday**
by Asa Rowan Flint
Chris found himself lost in thought, grappling with the weight of his choices, when Marcus’s sharp voice cut through the silence like a knife.
“Get out!”
In that instant, Chris’s heart plummeted, the anxiety he had been carrying finally crashing down on him. Without a moment’s hesitation, he dashed into the room, urgency propelling him forward.
“Mr. Morgan, I sincerely apologize for the oversight. I’ll escort Mr. Mason out immediately.”
With a firm grip, Chris seized Zack’s arm, attempting to pull him away, but Zack stood his ground, as stubborn as a mule, refusing to budge.
“Marcus, Sophie went to the resort with my brother!” Zack’s voice rang out, filled with a mixture of frustration and urgency.
The color drained from Marcus’s face, shadows dancing in his eyes as he swiftly removed his earpiece.
“What did you just say?”
Yesterday, when I had seen my brother packing his bags, a nagging feeling had crept into my mind. This morning, unable to shake off my unease, I had followed him and discovered he was picking Sophie up to head to the resort together.
Just moments ago, I had caught a glimpse of Liam’s social media post, boasting about Sophie inviting him to the resort for a vacation, flaunting their apparent love for all to see.
Zack was bewildered, trying to piece together why Sophie would choose to go to the resort with both Ryan and Liam simultaneously. Yet, the chaos unfolding around him left little room for contemplation on that matter. He was more concerned about the potential fallout of Marcus’s involvement.
Suddenly, Marcus shot up from his seat, striding purposefully toward the door.
But before he could take more than a few steps, he halted, his expression darkening, a storm of emotions swirling within his gaze.
“Marcus, what are you hesitating for?” Chris pressed, his voice steady yet filled with urgency. “I could see the connection between you and Sophie before. I don’t know what has changed, but you need to clarify things. If you wait too long, you might miss your chance forever.”
Marcus’s hands clenched at his sides, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his face.
Chris seized the moment, stepping forward with a contract in hand. “Mr. Morgan, the owner of this resort reached out to us through intermediaries, expressing a desire to collaborate with Morgan Group. Would you like to inspect it personally? If your schedule is tight, I can arrange for my team to handle it.”
Zack stood there, mouth agape, as he silently gave Chris a thumbs up. It was clear that Chris’s quick thinking was a testament to why he was Marcus’s trusted right-hand man.
“This is well done!”
Marcus took the contract, his tone firm. “I happen to have time to see it for myself.”
With those three words, Marcus strode out, his long legs carrying him swiftly away.
Watching him go, Chris felt a wave of relief wash over him. It seemed he had a chance to rectify his earlier mistake after all!
In the afternoon, Sophie and Ryan finally made their way to the resort.
Nestled at the very edge of Riverland, this resort was a hidden gem, separated from the neighboring city by a mere river. Here, guests could bask in Riverland’s gentle warmth while simultaneously feeling the cool, damp breeze wafting in from across the water.
It was no wonder that many from their circle chose this destination for vacations, relishing the unique blend of temperatures and sensations.
As Ryan busied himself with the luggage, Liam approached, his expression darkening upon spotting him.
“Sophie, why are there outsiders here?” he questioned, his tone laced with suspicion.
Sophie softened her voice, feigning innocence. “Mr. Mason wanted to join us, so I invited him along.”
“Are you unhappy, Liam?” she added, a playful smile on her lips.
