I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 109

He laid her down gently on the bed and examined her rapidly, checking her arms, neck, and everywhere else he could think of.

There were no lacerations or wounds to be found.

However, he did notice the distinct stain on her pants.

He immediately summoned Mrs. Gable upstairs. His gaze was sharp and unforgiving, causing the housekeeper to instantly drop her head in fear.

"Where did she get her hands on a knife?"

Mrs. Gable's voice trembled violently. "I swear, sir, she asked me for one earlier today, but I absolutely refused to give it to her!"

Then, Mrs. Gable saw it too. As a woman, she put the pieces together immediately.

"Sir... Ma'am just got her period. I really don't think this is a suicide attempt."

Hayden's eyes darkened instantly.

"What exactly has she been doing all day?"

She still looked incredibly fragile and weak.

Though a false alarm was infinitely better than having to clean up a bloody tragedy.

"Ma'am..."

Mrs. Gable hesitated, unsure if she should speak the truth.

After a moment, she confessed.

"After you left, sir, Ma'am ordered a massive amount of takeout food. Mostly comfort food. She must have been starving."

A thick vein pulsed angrily at Hayden's temple.

He ground his teeth together.

"Enough. Get out."

He stood by the bed, glaring down at the unconscious woman.

He had a highly critical international video conference scheduled for today.

But because he was so worried about her, he had made his driver turn the car around halfway to the office.

He fully expected to find her staging another dramatic, life-threatening sceneβ€”

Instead...

She had just eaten herself into a coma.

Hayden grabbed his phone and called Quentin to tell him not to bother coming.

As he walked out the door, he slammed it shut with such force that Mrs. Gable's heart nearly jumped straight out of her chest.

Zoe, still groggy and disoriented, was woken up by her phone ringing. It was Nadia Fox.

"Hello?"

"Zoe, are you home? Come open the door, right now."

Zoe pushed herself up to sit on the bed and suddenly realized she had been changed into a fresh set of clothes.

Her cheeks burned hot.

Was this the work of that absolute bastard Hayden again?

She had Mary, the other housekeeper, open the front gates and let Nadia in.

The second Nadia saw her, she lunged forward and pulled Zoe into a bone-crushing hug.

Tears were already welling in Nadia's eyes.
