She was simultaneously overjoyed and heartbroken.

If she had been in Nadia's shoes, she knew she wouldn't have been able to show the same level of loyalty.

Nadia stared at Zoe for a long, hard moment, then glared.

"Are you seriously oblivious, or are you just playing dumb?"

Zoe looked at her in genuine confusion.

Checking to make sure no one was watching, Nadia acted like a smuggler as she pulled a thick, hand-drawn comic book out of her purse and shoved it directly into Zoe's hands.

Zoe looked down at it, entirely baffled.

"See for yourself," Nadia said.

Frowning, Zoe opened the cover. The very first page practically burned her eyes.

It was packed with stunning, intensely attractive characters. The male lead sported perfectly chiseled eight-pack abs, and the female lead was breathtakingly beautiful.

But as Zoe stared at the male lead, an unsettling sense of familiarity washed over her.

She flipped the page, and the content immediately plunged into heavy, R-rated territory.

Zoe's face flushed crimson. She practically threw the book back at Nadia.

"Are you out of your mind?! Why are you showing me this?!"

She knew Nadia had been obsessed with steamy romance comics since high school, but she was in her twenties now. How had she not grown out of this?

"Didn't you have a boyfriend? Seriously, Nadia, just get married already! If you keep reading this filthy stuff every single day, it's going to rot your brain!"

Nadia carefully tucked the comic back into her bag as if it were a priceless artifact, then aggressively poked Zoe in the forehead.

"Zoe, you really have lost your memory. Honestly, you might have refused to see me in person all these years, but every single month, without fail, a courier hand-delivered the original manuscript of this comic directly to me. I always knew you still cared about me.

I figured you just had your reasons for keeping your distance. Plus, Asher kept me on a tight leash, and after you sold me out to Hayden—which got my law license suspended—I understood that this was the only way you could safely show your friendship. You stupid girl, I forgive you! Waaah!"
