Nadia froze, staring at Zoe as if she had been turned to stone.
She looked as though she had just been struck by lightning, completely paralyzed.
Half a minute later, she pointed a trembling finger at Zoe, her eyes murderous.
"So that girl... the one named Zoë... is YOU?!"
For five agonizing years, Zoe had been sending her monthly, illustrated updates of her and Hayden's intimate bedroom affairs, casually throwing in maybe three pages of actual plot for every hundred pages of smut.
Nadia raised her fists to the sky. "Zoe Lynd, I am going to kill you! It's bad enough you loved Hayden so much you completely lost your mind, but you've been burning my eyes for five straight years! Give me back my innocence! Give me back my clean eyes!"
Under the setting sun, the two women chased each other down the sandy beach.
Laughing wildly.
Until Zoe's laughter slowly turned into tears.
Citing health reasons, Zoe took three days off work. She finally returned to the office after her break.
During those three days, she barely saw Hayden at Blackwood Manor.
He always came home incredibly late and left before dawn.
He didn't eat any of his meals at the house, either.
Zoe stuck to her routine of dropping off and picking up Lily, and the married couple successfully avoided crossing paths.
When Zoe arrived at the office, she bumped straight into Mr. White, only to discover that the entire company was attending a massive corporate mixer on the top floor of the building.
When Zoe asked what the party was for, Mr. White played coy, acting mysterious while practically shoving her toward the elevator to attend.
The top floor of the building was a sea of luxury. Everyone was dressed to the nines in stunning evening gowns and sharp suits. Zoe was the only one wearing standard business attire, which, in a sick twist of fate, closely resembled the uniforms worn by the waitstaff hired for the event.
Since losing her memory, she had always dressed this way for work. What she didn't understand was when the PR department had decided to use her daily outfits as the baseline for the catering staff's uniforms. It was way too coordinated to be a coincidence.
Standing a short distance away, holding a glass of red wine, Valerie Yates spotted Zoe. She politely excused herself from her conversation, her hips swaying as her floor-length gown trailed behind her, making a beeline straight for Zoe.
