I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 206

The teacher hesitated, stumbling over her words. "The parents felt that you and Lily were launching a direct attack on Mr. Thorne's family. Ms. Lynd, Mr. Thorne is the chairman of our private board. We simply cannot afford to offend him."

It all clicked into place for Zoe.

She glanced into the car; Lily was still lost in the magic of her new ride, completely unaware of the storm outside.

"Is it the Thorne family you can't afford to offend, or is it just Sienna?"

The teacher's jaw snapped shut.

The so-called mob of angry parents was likely just a party of one: Sienna.

She was using the guise of concerned parents to force Lily out of the school.

When it came to underhanded tactics, Sienna was in a league of her own.

"I'll think about it. Give us three days. It takes time to find a suitable replacement school."

If Sienna was actively interfering, leaving Lily at this school was too dangerous anyway.

The teacher practically collapsed with relief, repeatedly thanking Zoe like a massive burden had just been lifted off her shoulders.

Zoe opened the car door. Lily's cheeks were flushed with pure excitement.

"Mom, look! There are so many stars on the ceiling!"

Zoe looked at her daughter, her heart swelling with an overwhelming protectiveness.

The teacher's words felt like a physical blow to her chest.

On the drive back, Zoe carefully broached the subject.

"Lily, what if we changed schools? Would you like that?"

The joy instantly vanished from Lily's face.

She might have been young, but she wasn't naive.

"Are they kicking me out because I yelled at Dad today?"

Zoe struggled to find the right words to comfort her. She absolutely refused to let Lily believe she had done anything wrong.

"No, sweetheart. You yelled at him because he broke his promise to us. And he was prioritizing someone else's kid. You didn't do a single thing wrong. Mom just wants to find a school closer to home, or maybe one right next to my office. That way, Colin won't have to pick you up anymore."

No matter how gently Zoe framed it, Lily understood the truth.

She was being expelled.

But Lily didn't shed a single tear.
