Lily couldn't say it. She had never even thought about it. But if she had to choose, she thought Colin was pretty nice. "Colinβ"
Hayden stared at Lily, his pupils constricting. His residual anger suddenly morphed into a dark, low chuckle that rumbled from his chest.
Zoe thought the man was completely out of his mind. He was acting like a total lunatic.
Finally regaining a bit of strength, she snatched Lily back and pulled her into her arms, eyeing Hayden warily.
Hayden gave the mother and daughter a long, penetrating look. His intense emotions gradually ebbed away.
It seemed Zoe hadn't been dragging Lily around looking for a new father. Colin Zachs? If Lily had dared to utter Garrett Stone or Hunter Keating's names, he would have made sure Hunter was banished back to where he came from and wiped Sterling Group off the map.
As for Colin...
Hayden's expression softened significantly. He had been working all day and was exhausted.
Losing his temper at Zoe earlier had drained whatever energy he had left.
Zoe carried Lily toward her bedroom. After a few steps, she paused and looked back.
Though Hayden was acting like a psycho, she still needed to make her stance clear.
"If you and Sienna really can't stand the sight of Lily and me, we don't just have to leave that preschool. We can move out of Blackwood Manor, too."
Dropping that ultimatum, she carried Lily into the bedroom.
Hayden's face stiffened.
What was that supposed to mean?
However, he didn't dwell on it.
The daughter was hers; she was free to do whatever she wanted.
But as for leaving Blackwood Manor? Hayden scoffed darkly.
She had to be dreaming.
Even if he let her go.
Would she actually bear to leave?
In the past, she'd storm out empty-handed, only to find excuses to come back every few days to grab clothes, purses, and her cheap little trinkets.
She'd even fetch her daughter's toys one by one.
In the end, when he ignored her, she would come crawling back with her tail between her legs.
She might not be tired of playing that game, but he was sick of watching it.
Hayden paid the mother and daughter no more mind and dragged his exhausted body back to his room.
He didn't want to come home every day just to fight with Zoe.
Come to think of it, it had been days since they'd been intimate.
