I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 210

Zoe had barely been at her desk for half an hour when her phone rang. It was the preschool.

"Ms. Lynd, could you come to the school right away? Lily got into a fight with another student."

Zoe bolted upright, nearly knocking over her coffee mug.

Garrett Stone had been standing by her desk discussing a project, and seeing her drastic reaction, he knew something was wrong.

"A fight? Is Lily hurt? Who did she fight?" Zoe demanded as she grabbed her purse.

Zoe marched toward the door while keeping the phone to her ear.

The teacher paused for a moment. "Lily is fine. The one who is hurt is Holden. Lily threw a rock at his head, and it's quite swollen."

Zoe let out a long sigh of relief.

She had been terrified.

Still, she needed to get over there immediately.

Holden was a vicious little boy, and she feared he would try to get revenge on her daughter.

Garrett overheard the conversation and offered his concern.

"Where is Mr. Thorne? It's usually better for the father to handle these kinds of situations."

If it was a schoolyard fight, someone was being bullied.

A father's presence often acted as a powerful deterrent against aggressive children.

"He's not going," Zoe replied with a bitter scoff.

Lily had just hit his precious nephew. There was no way Hayden would stand up for her daughter.

He'd probably side with Holden.

Garrett turned to his assistant and asked for his car keys. His expression was completely earnest.

"I'll go with you. Having a man there will give you some leverage."

Zoe froze, caught between wanting to smile and wanting to cry.

It was the first time anyone had ever offered her that kind of solid support.

Garrett chuckled lightly. "Don't tear up on me now. Just think of me as an older brother. Of course I'm going to have your back."

A warmth spread through Zoe's chest, and she nodded gratefully.
