I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 261

Lily felt a flutter of anxiety. It seemed like her dad really didn't like Garrett.

The last time they were at Grandmother Eleanor's house, she had seen him glaring daggers at Garrett. He had yelled at her mom, too. She didn't understand the words, but he used that same angry tone he always used when fighting with her mom at home. She knew it wasn't anything nice.

"Where are you going? I'll drive you," Hayden offered.

Zoe blinked, shocked. Had hell frozen over? But she didn't need a ride. Garrett was waiting at his office. They had planned for her to drive there so they could take his car to the slopes together. Why was Hayden suddenly playing the devoted husband?

Unless... She thought about the AI companion robot project she had been developing at Sterling Group. Somehow, Easton Group had caught wind of it. When Sienna had come by to discuss the joint venture the other day, she had boldly demanded Zoe share the new project so both companies could collaborate on it.

What a joke. Zoe had spent half a month just getting the concept approved, running herself ragged conducting market research, and staying up all night building the database. Sienna had to be out of her mind to think she would just hand it over. Zoe had flat-out refused.

She had ignored his calls for two days, and yet he wasn't angry. He was even offering them a ride. Was he trying to soften her up so he could plead his lover's case?

"No need. It's out of your way," Zoe rejected him coldly.

Lily skipped along beside her mother, sparing Hayden only a passing glance before her thoughts returned to Garrett. It was a shame her mom said Garrett was just a friend and couldn't be called 'Daddy.' In Lily's mind, Garrett would make a fantastic dad. Her real dad should just be Holden's dad, not hers.

"What about you, Lily?" Hayden ignored Zoe's refusal. She was too busy plotting her hookup with Garrett to care about him anyway. But Lily was his daughter, and a child's reaction was always genuine.

Being called out by Hayden, the excitement vanished from Lily's face, replaced by pure dread. She hid behind Zoe's legs and frowned. Was her dad trying to crash their trip? She definitely didn't want to play with him. Lily looked up at Zoe, shaking her head furiously.
