Sienna looked as if she had been struck by lightning.

Hayden frowned and immediately ordered Colin Zachs, who was practically vibrating with nervous energy in the driver's seat, "Turn the car around. We're going to the hospital. Cancel the amusement park."

When they arrived at the ER, Hayden instructed Colin to take Holden back to Nita Thorne's house. Having the boy see his grandfather in such a gruesome state would invite nasty gossip, and if Holden innocently blabbed at kindergarten, it would be a disaster.

"Mom, what exactly happened?"

Sienna furrowed her perfectly shaped brows, her eyes discreetly tracking Hayden's reaction.

Mrs. Winters was crying so hard she was nearly hyperventilating.

"It was Zoe! She tried to seduce your father, and when he rejected her, she did this to him! That psycho! I've known she was a loose cannon since she was sixteen.

"I deliberately invited her over when I thought your dad wouldn't be home. I was trying to be kind to the Lynd family! I knew her father died early and she had it rough, so I asked you to give the shares back so she could handle her own affairs. I never imagined she'd bite the hand that feeds her!"

Sienna didn't dare go into the trauma bay to look at Terrence's injuries. As his daughter, seeing him mutilated in such a private area was highly inappropriate.

"Mom, could there be a mistake? How could Zoe—"

Sienna bit her lip tightly, pitching her voice just loud enough for Hayden to hear.

"Zoe couldn't possibly do something like this. He's her stepfather. Even if she hates him, she still has to respect him. How could she... commit such an atrocity? There has to be a misunderstanding."

Sienna kept throwing worried glances at Hayden as she spoke.

Hayden stood against the wall, perfectly still. He looked like he was listening to their dramatic recounting, yet simultaneously completely detached from it.

She couldn't read his mind at all.

Her supposed defense of Zoe was masterfully calculated. By acting like the naive, loving sister who refused to believe the worst, she hammered the final nail into Zoe's coffin while simultaneously endearing herself to Hayden.

Mrs. Winters sobbed violently.

"That wretched girl has always been like this! She tried to seduce your father when she was sixteen, and five years ago she tried to seduce your fiancé! You know exactly what kind of person she is!

"If she had even half of your decency, this wouldn't have happened. She mutilated your own father, and you're still defending her out of sisterly loyalty!"

Hayden remained silent, lazily flicking his lighter open and closed.

After a long pause, he finally spoke.

"If you have evidence, call the cops."
