"I have no idea why, but my caseload has quadrupled lately. I've been working until midnight every single day. Asher even had to come pick me up.

Damn, you are unbelievable. Are you actually serious about Garrett, or are you just using him to make Hayden jealous so he'll come crawling back?

Zoe, if it's the latter, I'm telling you to give it up. Hayden is cold-blooded. He won't ever fall for anyone except Sienna."

Zoe sighed in sheer exhaustion.

"I'm really not."

After chatting on the phone for a full half-hour, Zoe was so sleepy that Nadia finally let her go.

Nadia put her phone down just as Asher walked through the door.

"Asher—"

She flashed a sugary-sweet smile.

Zoe had insisted she was fine, but Nadia was still worried and wanted to drop by the Kendall estate to check on her.

"Hmm."

Asher had overheard her talking to Zoe, and a subtle frown crept onto his face.

"I was thinking—"

She kept up the sweet smile, but Asher ruthlessly cut her off before she could finish.

"Don't even think about it. It's almost midnight, and you have three cases to handle tomorrow. Go to sleep."

It was a command that brooked no argument. Nadia slumped her shoulders, making one last desperate attempt.

"But what if Zoe really is in trouble?"

Asher scoffed coldly. "She would survive even if you didn't. She’s tried to end her life multiple times over five years and is still breathing. Do you think you're tougher than she is?"

Nadia was forced to shut her mouth.

Then again, she truly was slammed with work.

If she hadn't doom-scrolled and seen Hayden and Sienna trending online for their public display of affection, she would have almost forgotten Zoe was going through a rough patch.

"I'm going to bed, Asher."

Reluctantly getting up from the sofa, she massaged her aching shoulders.

For the past two months, she had been drowning in lawsuits. Maybe her reputation had simply gotten that good; everywhere she went, people were throwing wads of cash at her to represent them.

Watching Nadia's figure disappear at the top of the stairs, Asher's expression darkened completely.
