Zoe followed Garrett as he stood up from the table.
'We'll be taking our leave now. Director Yates, I'll personally bring Zoe back this afternoon. We have matters to attend to at the office. Please, enjoy the rest of your meal.'
Hayden's grip on his glass tightened subconsciously. Just a fraction more pressure and it would shatter in his hand.
Ethan suddenly chuckled. 'This Mr. Kendall is quite a character. He makes it sound like they live together. I thought they were just friends playing brother and sister? They act more like husband and wife.'
Ethan's careless joke earned him a murderous glare from Hayden. While Ethan remained oblivious to the death stare, his words pierced Timothy like a physical blow.
Were Garrett and Zoe really romantically involved?
She seemed like such a dignified woman. Could she really be that careless with her personal life?
Mr. Shaw, however, disagreed.
'I doubt it. Mr. Kendall isn't that kind of man. If they were really together, they wouldn't maintain such formal boundaries. He's unmarried, and she's a widow. If they wanted to be together, no one would judge them.'
Crackβ
The glass in Hayden's hand finally shattered, sending shards and liquid spilling across the table.
Meeting Mr. Shaw and Timothy's baffled stares, he offered a chillingly calm explanation.
'My hand slipped. Apologies.'
After leaving the dining hall, a storm brewed on Hayden's face.
Ethan, oblivious to the danger, was still digging his own grave by mocking Zoe.
'Hayden, she's really upgrading her tactics to get you back. Did you see the way Director Yates looked at her? I swear he's completely smitten. Tsk, tsk.'
Hayden, who had been marching toward the car, came to a dead halt.
Ethan blinked, finally noticing the shift in energy.
'What's wrong?'
'Find your own ride back.'
Hayden bypassed him without another word, leaving Ethan standing there in horror.
He watched the car speed off into the distance, genuinely clueless as to how he had triggered the man's wrath.
'H-Hayden! We're miles away from the city!'
But Hayden was already gone.
Ethan scowled. It had to be Zoe's fault. She had pissed Hayden off, and now Ethan was the one paying the price.
Hayden swerved onto the main highway, the speedometer climbing rapidly as he mashed the gas pedal. His Bluetooth kicked in, connecting the call, and Colin Zachs' voice echoed through the speakers.
'How many times a day do you pick up Lily?' Hayden demanded.
