I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 385

Hayden savagely crushed the cigarette into the ashtray.

Meanwhile, Zoe and Garrett had made it back to the Sterling offices.

The second she stepped into her suite, her phone lit up with Hayden's caller ID.

She assumed he was calling to interrogate her about the 'dead husband' comment at lunch.

She had absolutely zero desire to deal with that man.

She wasn't going to let him ruin her good mood.

Zoe silenced the device, tossed it on her desk, and threw herself back into her work.

It was only two hours later, when she finally leaned back in her chair to take a break, that she reached for her phone.

She was shocked to see the battery had drained from eighty percent down to twenty.

Opening her notifications, she saw an endless stream of missed callsβ€”almost entirely from Hayden.

There was also a text message.

'You moved out? Where the hell did you take my daughter?'

Zoe stared at the screen, utterly bewildered.

His daughter?

He must have texted the wrong person. The man only claimed to have a son.

Wasn't the kid's name Holden?

Zoe rolled her eyes hard. She swiped past every other notification badge tied to Hayden's name, refusing to give him any more of her time.

She did notice, however, two missed calls from Timothy.

Zoe gasped softly. In her rush to block out Hayden, she had completely missed a call from the Director of the aerospace base.

If it was an emergency, she was in real trouble.

She dialed him back immediately. It rang three times before Timothy answered.

'Ms. Lynd.'

His voice was warm and courteous. 'Did you need something urgent, Director Yates?' Zoe asked anxiously.

She assumed something had gone wrong with the project, otherwise, he wouldn't have called so soon after she left.
