Nadia reached over and aggressively poked Zoe in the temple. "What about your daughter, huh? Are you really going to sit here and deny it? If it wasn't you, then who was it? The two of you were caught by the media and splashed across the front page of every New York tabloid for half a month! And now you're playing innocent? Bullshit."

Nadia took another massive swig from her glass. Five years of pure misery. The day after the scandal, Hayden found out she had 'helped' orchestrate the whole thing. He instantly filed a complaint with the law firm she was interning at, got her law license suspended for three years, and nearly got her expelled before graduation.

It was only two years ago that she finally managed to crawl her way back into the legal field. She had just started making a real name for herself over the last six months—and now, her absolute nightmare of a best friend was back in her life.

Just hearing Zoe's voice was enough to make her chest tight with panic. How did Zoe even have the audacity to call her?

Nadia had sworn to herself a million times that if she ever saw Zoe again, she would strangle the walking disaster with her bare hands. But in the end, she had caved.

"Yeah. I want to divorce Hayden. I need you to represent me."

Nadia spat her mouthful of alcohol halfway across the table. The sheer shock sobered her up instantly.

She practically yanked Zoe up by the collar, her eyes wide with horror.

"Girl—no, Queen, I drank with you, I saw you, you don't have to literally kill me. Our friendship officially ends today. No, it's dead. Terminated. We are done. In this life, the next life, and the life after that, stay away from me!"

Nadia frantically started digging through her bag for her car keys.

She knew nothing good ever came from hanging out with Zoe. She never should have agreed to come.

Zoe refused to let her leave.

I woke up in his bed and was suddenly told we had a daughter. But I literally saw him kissing Sienna at the office! I'll admit I used to have a crush on him, but I had a boyfriend! Hunter was my boyfriend. I would never actually want to be with Hayden. He's a two-timing jerk. I must have been out of my mind to marry him."

Zoe leaned heavily against Nadia, her breath smelling of sweet alcohol. "I'm going to divorce him. Di-vorce."

Before Nadia could even formulate a response, a towering shadow fell over the table, entirely blocking out the overhead light.

Nadia looked up. A massive, imposing man slowly took a seat directly across from them.

His gaze was absolutely lethal, locked entirely on Zoe, who was still draped over Nadia's shoulder. But when he spoke, his voice was aimed straight at Nadia.

"Ms. Fox. Are you tired of practicing law?"
