"Zoe and I have signed the divorce papers. Half of everything in my name is going to her."

Grandmother Beatrice bolted upright, completely re-energized by pure rage.

"What... what did you just say? You're divorcing Zoe?!"

She pointed a trembling finger right in his face, looking ready to murder him on the spot.

The old woman was shaking so hard she nearly went into shock.

Hayden leaned closer, letting her fury wash over him. His cold, hardened face looked exactly like his late grandfather's.

"She caused a scene countless times over the last five years, and I gave in every single time. She was the one who asked for the divorce. I handed over a full, transparent list of every asset to my name to her lawyer. And her response was to try and take Easton too.

Easton belonged to Charles. He's gone, and this is the only thing he left behind for his wife and son. I transferred the company to Sienna so she could have some peace of mind while raising Holden."

A faint redness edged into Hayden's eyes, striking a harsh blow to the old woman's heart.

"Grandmother, I'm tired."

He lowered his head, his posture radiating an overwhelming sense of defeat and exhaustion.

Grandmother Beatrice sat frozen on the hospital bed as if she'd been struck by lightning. This grandson of hers had dominated the corporate world for years, and she had heard all the stories of the vicious, bloody things he had done in Southeast Asia.

No matter how bad things got, she had never seen him look this helpless.

He looked genuinely broken. Innocent. Pitiful.

Bedridden and weak, all she had left was her biting tongue and a heavy hand.
